Edith O’livia Mott, age 69, of Coaling, Alabama passed away April 21, 2023 at home surrounded by those who loved her most. Edith had spent the last 8 months fighting Stage IV cancer and truly gave it all she had.
Edith loved life and had a big laugh contagious to anyone around her. She spent 25 years with her loving husband, Billy Joe Mott, who proceeds her in death. She was a dedicated member of the United States Navy, doing a full tour in Desert Storm and returned home in 1991 to continue serving her community as a home health and psychiatric nurse. There was truly no one she wouldn’t go the extra mile for.
Edith is preceded in death by her parents, Ruth and Thomas Beck, her husband, Billy Joe Mott, and two sisters Jane LeClair and Annie Beck, Daughter-in-law Misty McCarter, and three grandchildren Brylan McCarter, Trevor Mott and Brittany McCarter. She is survived by her children, Lisa Mott (David), Timothy Beck (Lisa), and George McCarter (Wendy), sisters Elma Babin (Wesley), Thomasa Barner, Linda Ragland (Larry) and Brenda Prine (Matt), as well as a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and special friends.
To know Edith was to love her, and to be loved by her was even greater. It was not uncommon to find her kitchen full of those passing by just for a warm meal and a hug. She spent her afternoons outside watching birds or traveling to casinos with friends and was especially partial to the color purple. Edith had big plans to travel and continue enjoying her retirement.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to George and Wanda Kibugu, Dr. Gharwen, The Cancer Care Team and Intervention Radiology at MD Anderson, Hospice of West Alabama, and Cancer Care Center of Tuscaloosa.
Visitation will be Saturday, April 29th from 6:00-8:00 pm and Services on Sunday, April 30th at 2:00 pm with Brother Don White officiating. A graveside burial will follow. Both will be held at Memory Chapel Funeral Home at 2200 Skyland Blvd E in Tuscaloosa.
Pallbearers will be Brandon Mott, Kyle Wheeler, Chris Beck, Justin Beck, Tyler McCarter, and Will McCarter.
In lieu of flowers, we ask that you schedule your colonoscopy screening or plan a trip to somewhere you’ve always wanted to go in Edith’s memory.
