David "Dave" Rodney Smart, age 59, of Cottondale, Ala., died December 15, 2018 at DCH Regional Medical Center. Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, December 19, 2018, at Heritage Chapel Funeral Home with Rev. Freddy Williams and Rev. James Walker officiating. Burial will follow at Tuscaloosa Memorial Park with Heritage Chapel Funeral Home & Cremations, a Dignity Memorial Provider, directing. Visitation will be 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. Tuesday, December 18, 2018, at the funeral home. The body will lie in state one hour prior to services.
He was preceded in death by his father, David M. Smart; grandparents, James and Bonnie Lou McDaniel and Nancy Williams Smart.
Survivors include the love of his life for 38 years, Anita Lindsey Smart of Cottondale, Ala.; son, Jonathan David Smart (Meredith), Northport, Ala.; sisters, Sherry Harvey (Harold), Northport, Ala., and Lisa Robertson (Rex), Holman, Ala.; mother, Faye Smart, Cottondale, Ala.; granddaughter, Sutton Claire Smart.
David was known by all to be the guy who could make you smile and was always the life of the party. His biggest joys were enjoying life with his wife, Anita, watching his son grow-up on the baseball field, his granddaughter Sutton Claire, cheering on the Crimson Tide, covering all things in hot sauce, and of course making people laugh. To know him was to love him.
Pallbearers will be Rodger Fisher, Logan Fisher, Steve Williams, Kevin Barker, Rick Falls, Mike Carden, Chuck Daniels and Michael Sessoms.
Honorary pallbearers are GAF Tuscaloosa, First Church of the Nazarene, Holt High School Class of 1977, Clearview Street Neighbors, and former Tuscaloosa Steel/Nucor employees.
In lieu of flowers, make someone laugh today, just as David would have.
