Charles R. Wheeler, age 84, of Tuscaloosa, died Saturday, March 14, 2015 at Hospice of West Alabama. Services will be 11 a.m. on Wednesday, March 18, 2015 at Memory Chapel with Bill Rayburn officiating. Burial will follow at Memory Hill Gardens with Memory Chapel Funeral Home, a Dignity Memorial Provider, directing. Visitation will be one hour prior to the services at the chapel.He was preceded in death by his parents, William R. Wheeler, and Annie L. Wheeler; brothers, Bill Wheeler, Guy Wheeler, and Max Wheeler; and sister, Mozelle Robertson.Survivors include his wife, Mary Wheeler; daughters, Diane Bostick of Tuscaloosa, and Cindy Bunch of Lafayette, La.; sons, Ed Wheeler, of Alpharetta, Ga., and Scott Wheeler of Atlanta, Ga.; sisters, Annie Lea Howton of Cottondale, Dora Little of Lynn Haven, Fla., and Ruth Jones of Jasper; grandchildren, Jennifer Humber, Jessica Balentine, Donnie Dixon, Tyler Dixon, Mary Daker, Sarah Roberson, and Amy Miller; and eight great-grandchildren.Charles was born in Steens, Mississippi on December 24, 1930. He moved to Tuscaloosa in 1950 where he met and married his wife of 64 years, Mary. He served his country in the U.S. Army from 1950-1952. His love for people led him to his career in insurance. He worked for Liberty National for 27 years. He served as an Elder for 26 years in the Churches of Christ.Throughout his life, he impacted countless people with his generosity and selflessness. His legacy of integrity, generosity, and strong work ethic will be felt by his family for generations. The cornerstone of his legacy was his strong faith in God. The priority of his life was to seek God first in all things.Pallbearers will be Donnie Dixon, Tyler Dixon, Doug Lavender, Rob Bunch, Michael Humber, and Bryan Balentine.Honorary pallbearers are members of Central Church of Christ, and friends and neighbors of Hickory Forest.Special thanks to the staff of Hospice of West Alabama, especially Jill Sanford.
