Survived by nephew, Harry James Adams Jr. (Wanda); niece, Marion Caffee Waldrop; step niece, Betty Scurlock; and great nephews: Harrison J. Adams, Jay Waldrop (Kitty), Michael Waldrop (Rene), John Waldrop (Lorrie) and Mark Waldrop (Tonya). Great niece, Samantha N. Adams Foster (Codey); step great niece, Gloria Lawley Nolen (Doug).
Services will be held at Canterbury Episcopal Chapel, Tuscaloosa with The Rev. Marc Burnette officiating on Saturday, June 26, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. Interment will be at 12:00 p.m. at Mt. Carmel Cemetery, West Blocton with Heritage Chapel Funeral Home & Cremations, A Dignity Memorial Provider directing.
Adams held BS and MA degrees and Advanced Professional Diploma from the University of Alabama. He taught Social Science and English in secondary schools in Bridgeport and Robertsdale, Alabama. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. Adams retired from the University of Alabama in 1984 as Director Emeritus of Conference Activities, College of Continuing Studies with twenty-eight years service; served on the Tuscaloosa County Preservation Society Board; was a member of Shelton State Community College Lifetime Learning Institute Board; was advisor to Town of West Blocton Centennial Committee in 1984.
Author, Blocton: The History of an Alabama Coal Mining Town and History of the West Blocton United Methodist Church; member, Canterbury Episcopal Chapel where he has served as lector. He was chairman of Mt. Carmel Cemetery Trust Fund committee; worked with West Blocton Improvement Committee in placing several town historical markers, was a member of the Cahaba Lily Festival Committee from its beginning.
