Bobby Lucian Smith, age 89, of Tuscaloosa, Alabama passed away on Thursday, October 12, 2023 at the Tuscaloosa VA Hospital. A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, October 18, 2023 at Memory Chapel Funeral Home, officiated by Dr. Curtis Kelley. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at Memory Hill Gardens with Military Honors.
Bobby is preceded in death by his parents, Charles M. Smith and Willa Dean Byrum Smith of Johns, Alabama; Wife, Catherine H. Smith of 56 years; brother, Charles L. Smith "KO"; sister-in-law, Wanda L. Smith of Brookwood, Alabama; sister, Billie Sue Cannon of GA.
He is survived by his son, Dennis R. Smith and daughter-in-law, Mary S. Smith; grandson, Tyler R. Smith; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews and close friends.
Bobby was raised by his loving parents, Charles M. Smith and Willa Dean Byrum Smith. He was enlisted into the Army and fought in the Korean War. He was an avid fisherman and hunter. He worked for Meadow Gold Dairy for 18 years. He then worked for B.F. Goodrich Rubber Plant for 20 years in the Final Finish department.
In addition to his professional aspirations, he was a much beloved and involved father and grandfather to his son, Dennis and grandson, Tyler. He found great joy in being able to raise his son hunting and fishing as well as with his son's friends. He carried on this hobby to his grandson Tyler, taking great pride in being able to contribute to teaching him to hunt as well. Bobby enjoyed spending his time as an avid square dancer for the Druid City Promenaders with his wife, Catherine and life long friends, Johnny and Peggy Sexton, Wyman and Jean Yates, Dave and Mary Nichols, John and Polly Faulkner and Floyd Pugh.
Pallbearers will be Tyler R. Smith, Tony Gregg, Steve Winingham, Zach Winingham, Randy Fields, and Jimmy Hannah.
Honorary pallbearers are employees of B.F. Goodrich Rubber Plant- Final Finish Dept. and employees and staff of the VA Magnolia Cottage, building 146.
