Ann Settoon Abernethy, 76, passed away on December 1, 2023, surrounded by her family. She is preceded in death by her parents, Leona and Durno Settoon, and her sister, Florence Settoon. Survivors include her brother, Malcolm Settoon, daughter Berkley Muse Wagner (Will), granddaughters Anna Carson Wagner and Allie Wagner as well as nephews Ryan Settoon and Barrett Settoon (Cheri).
Ann was born November 19, 1947, in New Orleans, Louisiana, but lived most of her childhood and adult life in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. After graduating from Broadmoor High School in 1965, she briefly attended Louisiana State University before training with Delta Airlines, to become a flight attendant. She flew with Delta for several years before marrying and starting a family. Following the birth of her daughter Berkley, Ann worked in various sales roles before taking over her father’s business, Buyer’s Guides, Inc. For many years, she helped small business owners in the parishes surrounding Baton Rouge grow their businesses through advertising. She moved to Tuscaloosa, Alabama, in 2017 to be closer to her daughter and her family.
Ann cherished her relationships with her many friends and family and she never met a stranger. She was a long-time member of Broadmoor United Methodist Church of Baton Rouge. Ann enjoyed her Golden Retrievers, Belle and Maggie, playing tennis, traveling, shopping with her daughter & granddaughters and working in her yard. Of all the things in life that Ann held dear, she was most proud of her daughter Berkley and son-in-law Will, and especially her granddaughters, Anna Carson and Allie.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Lewis and Faye Manderson Cancer Center, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or the Tuscaloosa Metro Animal Shelter.
Honorary Pallbearers:
Will Wagner, Malcolm Settoon, Ryan Setton, Barrett Settoon, Patrick Settoon, Finus Gaston, Neal DiChiara, John Montgomery, Mark Abernethy and John Sims
The family would like to express their deepest appreciation to the doctors, nurses and staff on the 7 South West wing of the DCH Regional Medical Center for the wonderful support of and care for Ann.
