Mick was the best...ever.  He was kind and fun and had more humor than any teacher we had.  He has a smile on his face when he put up with all our mayhem..

He was my art Teacher in High school at Newport art has been such a big part of my life because of him .I became a pastry chef I use art everyday. Mick was my favorite teacher and asst coach what a great person . Prayers to his family

Mick was always a smiling face, a welcome word, and a great sense of humor. He was truly a man of God in all his many walks of life.  Well done, Mick!

I was appointed High School Principal at Newport High School in 1994
Mick was my AD and Art teacher there but he soon became much more than that for me...
He was a rock solid professional that I soon relied on heavily for wisdom and advice.
Mick had the driest  of humor And often laughed at his own jokes....I remember him as  a die hard Grizzly as well

I admired Mick for his commitment, moral character and work ethic

God brought him home Too soon!




We called him "Art". A genuinely kind hearted man. Always kind and encouraging. you knew when you disappointed him, he had that look that i had seen a few to many time in art class. Art was our 9th grade football coach and led us to an undefeated season. He basically stood on the sidelines and let us play whatever position we wanted. His kind soul and that constant little smile was always an encouragement. One of my favorite teachers. God's goodness was truely seen in him and his beautiful wife. His love for his students spoke louder than words.... A good good man.

Mr. Schultz was part of the scenery of my childhood.  From school to Bible School.  He was a military hero and a great man who was a great role model for all of us. He will be greatly missed.

Mick had a great impact on my life as a young girl and teen at Dalkena Church.  He always had time for us, he always checked on us. He genuinely cared for us. Such good memories! Debbie and Steve were our friends growing up. Our Dad was Pastor Jerry.  Was sad to hear of Mick’s passing, would like to see he and Dad catching up!  My love and prayers go out to the family.  I am so sorry for your loss Tamara, Debbie , Steve and family! Grateful for glory! With love ~karla 

When I began  teaching in Newport I met Mick, and I knew right away what an upstanding and solid person  Mick portrayed!  My two girls were fortunate to be students of Mick, and through his influences have become wonderful artists.  His presence in this world will be sorely missed, and I know that we can see him again!

I am so saddened by this news😪    He was such an awesome man.  I treasure the 17 years I got to work with him at  NHS, and my end of the school year plaque from his art students.  He always distributed the "left behind " art treasures.

Mick and Tamra,  I was blessed to have been able to live in your little home on Westside Calispel and have you as my "landlords".  I could feel your love for Jesus exploding around you in every word/action/emotion etc... You shared your horses, dogs, kittys (even letting me have Butch :-) and your beautiful garden.  Now you Mick, are in the presence of our Lord and knowing we will see you again brings a bit of joy in our sorrow.  Give dad a hug for me and I will see you again.  

I am so sorry to hear of Mick's passing. He was such a great man. He will be greatly missed. 

I had the pleasure of spending time with Mick in a variety of settings growing up. He was my teacher, coach, Dad's colleague, family friend, and father of my best friend from K-12. At all times and with tremendous consistency, he stood out to me as a man of great character, a man of great humor, of humility, intelligence, grace, and presence. I appreciate his contributions to my life and the numerous others he touched through his work as a leader and educator across many different contexts. 
May Mick's family receive grace and comfort in remembrance of a life well lived. I appreciate the man Mick was and the presence he had in my life. 

I’ve known Mick since I was 12 years of age he was my fifth grade art teacher, and later my freshman basketball coach.  After high school when I attended college we stayed in touch.  While at my home one day I showed Mick what basketball officials received at the state 2A tournament it was then he asked me to become part of the state B when he became director.  Little did I know I would stay 18 years. I missed him when he gave up the position. 
He taught me two things I still carry in life.  He was and still the most organized person I have ever been around. He told me once as an athletic director you have to stay six months ahead of everything  The other thing was I asked him how he wanted something done he said, “I don’t care just get it done.”  What wise words of leadership that has been for me.

Great man, great person, and most of all great friend. 

Visiting the Shultz's during Christmas or Thanksgiving every year is some of my lives fondest memories.  I'll always remember Uncle Mick with his quiet demeanor either watching sports on TV or reading a book, then out of nowhere he would tell a joke.  The  only problem was you didn't know it was a joke.  He would tell it as a story in his very serious tone and often dry sense of humor.  When he was done, I would remember how the story was funny but afraid to laugh because I wasn't sure it was a joke...then all of sudden he would start giggling, he never laughed, he just giggled, which freed me to start laughing.  I was never sure was I laughing at his giggling or was it his story,  I'm sorry, I mean joke!

Uncle Mick to me was a rock, a beacon for men to follow!  He was full of wisdom, patience, love, kindness, goodness, basically all the qualities you find in someone that has been blessed with the fruits of the Holy Spirit.  If men in this world could live their lives half as well as he did...what a world we would be living in.  


The Kearns family remember that the holiday celebrations were always special at the Schultz lovely home overlooking Calispell Lake.  Christmas was particularly memorable enjoying the beautiful decorations, Rudolph’s red nose, fun sledding and skiing, stunning fresh fir tree, and all the love shared....especially the love. A privilege and blessing to be included.

My first remembrance of Mr. Schultz was at Dalkena Community Church.  My family came in and they were the first family that greeted us.  I can remember taking care of Steve and Debbie during church service.  I remember when he was on our church board along with my dad.  I can hear them talking about college sports.  He was my high school Sunday school class teacher.   He was always patient, kind, fun loving and a Godly man.  Never took any art classes in school but never heard anybody talk about a "mean Mr. Schultz".  He will be sorely missed but I know that he is now with his Lord.

Mick (and Tamara) had such a positive influence on my high school years.  I thank God for putting Mick and family in my life.  

Mick was a kind, loving, gentle man who loved his family, especially his grandkids.  There was only one exception to his kindness that I witnessed over the years and that was when he felt like the refs were being unfair to his grandkids and then he’d let them have it!  You would have to laugh because it was so unlike his character.  

I will never forget the times we spent in Newport during summer vacation and all the good times we had.  He and Tamra opened their house to our family and treated my kids like their own grandkids.  When Brad played basketball at NIC and football at EWU they were always there to support and love on him.  

I will cherish the time we had with you Mick.  Thank you for all of the memories and sharing your beautiful family with us.

Mr. Schultz was my art teacher and Assistant  Basketball coach at Newport High School.
He was always tolerant of us girls and our goofing around. He would even crack a smile. Doing his best to not to let on that he thought we were funny. 
Anytime my art project would start to go south Mr. Shultz would come over and with a few pointers or strokes of his brush the project would transform. He was a talented artist.
I have fond memories of his kindness.
