Lynn was born October 22, 1947, in Denver, CO. The family moved to Seattle when he was an infant. He graduated from Bishop Blanchet High School in 1965. He attended the University of Portland and Everett CC before serving two years in the Army with a tour of duty in Vietnam. He married Geraldine, and they built a loving family in Federal Way, WA. Lynn worked for the U.S. Postal Service for 33 years, with the majority of his career at the Seattle Bulk Mail Center. When not working, he supported his children to explore their interests in sports and the arts while also providing lots of opportunities for exploring the United States through camping, beach trips, and road trips. Card games, bowling leagues, celebrating milestones, and simply spending time with family and friends were his joy builders. Lynn worked hard to beat Geri at Scrabble and Quiddler throughout their marriage, with a personal record of playing Quiddler games almost every single day during the 18-month COVID-19 lockdown.
In retirement, Lynn focused on providing care and entertainment for his grandchildren. He specialized in making child-sized furniture as well as macaroni and cheese that none of his children could replicate (the secret turned out to be a whole stick of butter). In addition to providing great snacks and after-school care, he built swing sets and sandboxes and provided hours of enjoyment with games, puzzles, egg hunts, heated summer swimming pools, and fun times at the beach.
While he tried to hide it, he had a heart that truly cared for the people and animals around him. He showed this when making buckets of candies for his employees each Christmas, supporting Thanksgiving and Christmas giving baskets, and always supporting Geri with her many service projects through the Church and community. A pinnacle of his animal devotion was demonstrated with his famous squirrel rescue, where he documented himself saving a squirrel from drowning. In his less active years, Lynn took great comfort and joy in watching the birds from his covered porch in all seasons and sharing the many bird escapades with his daily calls to his children and grandchildren.
Lynn is survived by his wife Geri of 50 years, children Lisa Parchem, Kari (Chris) Thierer, and Kevin (Debby) Walker; and his grandchildren Teresa (Alex) Barbery, Tyler and Ashlee Parchem and Grayson Lever; his sisters Rosalie Barton and Virginia Wakefield, and his brother Larry (Debra), along with many nieces and nephews. Lynn was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Helen, and his sister Lynette Otani.
