Elaine was born July 20, 1942 in Warren, Ohio, daughter of the late John and Elizabeth Kuhn Bokone. In 1960, Elaine graduated high school from St. Mary’s in Warren, Ohio and went on to receive a Bachelor of Education from Youngstown State University in 1966. She married Corbett Thornton on July 5, 1969 and they recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. Elaine and Corbett raised two daughters, Amy and Molly. She was a Catholic elementary school teacher at Blessed Sacrament in Warren, Ohio, St. Stephen in Niles, Ohio, and St. Joseph in Farmington, Missouri. While she enjoyed teaching all grades, 4th was her favorite. Elaine loved keeping in touch with family and friends, watching her favorite grandsons grow, and learning about and spotting wildlife. She also loved celebrating her Hungarian heritage and was forever devoted to her Catholic faith.
Elaine is survived by her husband Corbett of Olympia, daughters Amy Thornton of Olympia and Molly (Michael) Addington of Seattle, twin grandsons Henry and Maxwell Addington of Seattle, brother John (Dianna) Bokone of Warren, Ohio, brother Ernest (Mary Jo) Bokone of Grabill, Indiana, beloved aunts and an uncle, and many dear nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Visitation for family and friends will be held from 11:00am - 12:00pm at St. Michael Parish, 1208 11th Avenue SE, Olympia, WA 98501, on Wednesday, February 19, 2020. A funeral mass will follow at 12:00pm. Elaine will be laid to rest at Mills & Mills Memorial Park in Tumwater.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Michael Parish or The Salvation Army Olympia Corps.
