Dorothy Mathilda Wright, born on December 25, 1922, passed away peacefully in her home on September 30, 2021, with family at her side. She is survived by her children and their spouses: Jackie Wright, Vickie and Steven Parsons, Karen Wright and Kathy Taylor, and their families; grandchildren: Krystal Moberly, Jed and Megan Wright, Hallie Taylor-Wright, Azucena Taylor-Wright, and Alejandro Taylor-Wright; and great-grandsons Kaden and Andyn Moberly. She was preceded in death by her husband Jack, son Gerald, and grandsons Allan and Abraham Bennett.
In her late teens Dorothy left her small farming town of St. John, North Dakota on a train for Seattle. Here she began her career at Boeing in the 1940’s. Dorothy was a devoted wife and mother. Married in 1948 she raised her family in the Seattle area, embracing each summer with her family in a rustic cabin on Vashon Island. Moving with her family to California, she was a department manager in several local department stores. She and her husband were leading round dance instructors for over 35 years in the S.F. Bay Area, California, Yuma and Mesa, Arizona, and Olympia, Washington. She sailed on over 27 cruises with her husband in Alaska, Mexico, the Caribbean, and Norway. After retirement they returned to the Olympia area and enjoyed time at Lake Cushman.
Faithfully exercising through her 96th year, she was a familiar face at the Briggs YMCA in Tumwater. Dorothy loved to be on or close by the water, grow flowers and vegetables in her yard, enjoyed the simple pleasure of watching birds and squirrels in her backyard, and savored a glass of Merlot while sharing stories of her past. She cared about the future of our country and enjoyed hearing the life experiences of her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She was an inspiration to her family, friends, and neighbors and shared her secret of a long life through the 4 A’s: Attitude, Ancestry, Activity, and Appreciation. There is a vacant space in the hearts of those who loved her.
