On August 21, 1933, Dianne Lael House was born to Buford M. (Bob) and Evelyn L. (Haugland) House in Tacoma, WA, as a twin. On January 3, 2023, with her daughter Alice by her side at St. John Medical Center in Longview, WA, Dianne passed peacefully from this world into the presence of her Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ.
The House family moved to the Lacey area where Dianne attended Old Lacey Elementary for first grade and continued school in Tenino from 1941 to 1947. She graduated from eighth grade at Lincoln Elementary and from William Winlock Miller High School (Olympia High) in 1952. Dianne spent a year at Dietz Business School and two years at Prairie Bible Institute in Three Hills, Alberta, Canada. She worked for the State Department of Public Assistance as a graphotype/addressograph operator and clerk/typist.
On February 14, 1959 she married Howard E. Smith (Class of 1948) in Tumwater, WA. She worked as a Teachers’ Aide at Littlerock Elementary from 1970 – 1976 and did Childcare in her home from 1970 to 1986. Dianne helped a number of ladies in the Littlerock area with housekeeping, washing and putting up hair, and did lots of house-sitting in the Olympia area.
Dianne was a member of the Tumwater Evangelical Free Church (now Hope Community Church) since 1950. She held many financial/secretarial positions in the church and was a member of the Women’s Missionary Society. Dianne participated with the Littlerock Fire Department Auxiliary for a number of years and also worked with CEF (Child Evangelism Fellowship) doing Good News Clubs in her home. Her hobbies included reading, needlepoint, and writing letters to missionaries all over the world. Dianne attended the Littlerock Community Fellowship in Littlerock, WA, since 1990 and became a member in 2013.
She is survived by her son, Edward (Shawnacy) Smith, of Lake Stevens, WA; two daughters, Alice L. Johnson, of St. Helens, OR, and Lael Anne S. (John) Succo, of Spokane, WA; seven grandchildren, Nicholas (Jennifer) Johnson, Katherine (Jim) Browning, Lydia Succo, Jonathan Succo, Sarah Succo, Caleb (Madilyn) Succo and Dustin Miller; two great grandchildren, Lily and Willem; her brother David House of Olympia, WA; and several nieces and nephews. Dianne was preceded in death by her father and mother; her twin sister, Anne Sharon; her husband, Howard; her nephew, Daniel Safsten; her son-in-law, Bill Johnson; her sister, Barbara Safsten and brother in law, Gunnar Safsten; and her sister in law Peggy House.
