Darrell was born in Wenatchee to Chester C. Frazier and Oma J. Frazier. He was the youngest of 5 children. His 4 older sisters are 2 sets of twins. His Father was an Orchardist and his Mother packed apples for many years. Darrell helped his Dad in their orchard and harassed his sisters every chance he got, that is when he wasn't on some adventure with his best friend Gordy.
He graduated from Wenatchee High School in 1969 and then attended junior college before enlisting in the US Air Force in 1972. His first assignment in the Air Force was a tour in Vietnam where he worked in security at a US controlled airport. He manned the towers and alerted the ground of incoming enemy fire. When he returned to the states he married Shirley Grigsby. His next assignment was in Alaska as a Staff Sergeant/Wildlife Officer where he was commended in a local newspaper for his great work. From there he was sent to Andrews Air Force Base until his honorable discharge in 1977. He and his family moved back to Wenatchee.
In the tight job market of 1977 he moved his wife and 3 children to San Simone, Arizona, where he took a law enforcement job with Arizona Department of Transportation in Tucson. He was promoted to Supervisor at the Port of Entry. Again he received accolades for his excellent work. In 1989 he and Shirley divorced. Darrell returned to Olympia, Washington in 1990 with his border collie, Bleau, to be closer to his aging parents and sisters.
Late in 1991, Darrell joined a Christian singers group called "The Mustard Seed" where he met the love of his life Georgia (Rosenoff) Reese. They married on January 2nd, 1993 at Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd in Olympia, Washington. In doing so he also added 4 Step-Daughters to his family. He jokingly referred to family gatherings with his step-daughters as a day in the hen house. He frequently ended up in a separate room where he could watch old movies and sports in peace.
In 1995 he took a job with the Washington State Patrol as a VIN Inspector. This classification was later abolished and he became a Commercial Vehicle Officer. He was given a disability retirement in 2004.
He contributed to his Washington State family in many ways. For example, when step-daughter Christi bought her first house with a lawn he gave her a lawn mower and taught her how to mow. His step-daughter Maggie he took fishing, argued a lot, and taught her how to drive, how to use tools and work with wood. He was always a jokester and prankster even when helping you. He also liked to tell silly jokes just to see you smile.
Darrell was preceded by his parents; two sisters, Opal Myers and Lorraine Whitehall. He is survived by his wife of nearly 29 years, Georgia of Tumwater; his children, Christopher Frazier, Lena Keil (Dan) of Arizona, and Kathleen Macdonald of Louisiana. Four step-daughters; Stephanie Howell, Christina Johnson of Tumwater, Cynthia Longman (Ed) of Florida, and Margaret Teerath (Arthur) of Kelso. He is also survived by several grandchildren and great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He will be greatly missed by his family and his many friends.
A Memorial Service will be held at the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd on November 20, 2021 at 2:00PM. The family requests in lieu of flowers, a donation be made to the Disabled American Veterans; or any non-profit cancer research program.
