Velma June Pershing was born on June 10th, 1930 in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania to Robert Andrew Pershing and Anna Mae Adeline White. She was one of eight siblings, a tight-knit family with strong bonds. As she grew older, her love for God and family shaped her into the matriarch everyone knew her to be.
It was in her later years she met the love of her life Chester Taylor, through their shared Church and love of worship. They eloped to Las Vegas and took their vows at the Chapel of the White Stars before returning to Tucson to build their home, a place of warmth and comfort that brought family together no matter the distance.
Walking into her home you would find yourself immersed in seasonal decor, she was passionate about celebrating every holiday, birthday, or occasion to host. If she wasn't out finding a deal at the local yard sale, or her next knick knack at Big Lots, she could likely be found at the kitchen table crafting or cooking the most incredible meals. There was never a dull moment with Velma, her home filled with memories of large family gatherings, competitive Zilch games, and singing together while she played the organ or harmonica. To be loved by Velma was to know she would always be happy to make time for you, remind you everything would work out, and most of all that God loves you. She was a beautiful spirit with the most sincere care for those around her, a mother and grandmother that raised countless generations, whose impact words could never be enough to describe.
Velma is preceded in death by her siblings Bob, Bill, Roy, Ralph, David, Betty, and Alice, and children Dorothy Moore and Robert Will. She is survived by her many grandchildren, great grandchildren, step daughter, nieces and nephews, and all those whose lives she touched and left forever blessed.
