Susan Marcia Salovitz Hussey has been a resident of Tucson since 1994. Prior to that, she lived in Los Angeles, CA and Boston, MA. She was a retired Registered Nurse (RN) who enjoyed traveling, scuba diving, spending time in Mexico, beading, rock collecting, gourmet cooking, politics, and family.
Susan earned her B.S.N. in 1979 at Northeastern University, Boston, MA where she met and married her devoted husband, Rick. In 1995, she earned her M.S.N. in Psychiatric/Mental Health Nursing at California State University. She was a Patient Care Manager at University Medical Center in Tucson. Prior to that she worked as a Psychiatric Nurse Manager at Olive View Medical Center in Los Angeles County. She was dedicated to the many adolescents and other patients that were under her care. She was also a teacher, mentor and role-model for her staff, and had been awarded many honors over the course of her nursing career. Susan had the gift of relating so well with the youngest and the oldest in any group, and all of those in between, whether longtime friends or total strangers.
Rick and Susan recently celebrated their 30 year marriage milestone! She was his soul mate, partner, and best friend for life. Their union brought about the birth of Jacob, their loving son, to whom she devoted herself completely.
Born to Charlotte Zimmerman and Sherman Salovitz on March 18th, 1956 in New Haven Ct., Susan made herself known to all right from the start. She was born with physical challenges, but never allowed them to stop her from living a full and rich life. She was not defined by her challenges or trials over the years, but rather by the fact that she was committed to a full and rich life with her loving family and friends. Pity was not a word ever to be found in Susan's vocabulary. Her doctors and those close to her, were constantly amazed by her perseverance, accomplishments and drive to achieve beyond their highest expectations. Susan never focused on herself; her goals were always to support others in any way possible.
For all the medical difficulties life handed her, she worked hard to make sure the other times were that much more rewarding. Susan was an inspiration to all who had the opportunity to know her. Her kindness, generosity, caring and concern for others were foremost in her thoughts. Her spiritual lift and dry sense of humor with her family was her forte, and was infectious to all who met her.
Susan survives through her parents Charlotte Zimmerman and Sherman Salovitz, father-in law George Hussey, her brother Barry Salovitz (Rachel), her sisters Sally Salovitz, Karen Cardinell (Mike), brother-in-law Bob Hussey (Judi), sister-in-law Janet Monette (John), Susan Schroeder (Stephan), nieces and nephews Benjamin, Molly, Adam, Leah, Robbie, Alex, Laura, Holly, Scott, Amanda, Megan, Cheyenne and Dominic, grand niece and nephew Savannah andYonotan, her dear friend Dr. Bob Kramer. (Uncle Bob), her loving puppies Meeya and Katie, as well as her many other family members and friends. She was pre-deceased by her step-father Sherman Zimmerman, and mother-in-law Doris Hussey.
Susan's life defined courage and dignity. We are all better people for having known her and loved her. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Susan's memory to the Jewish Federation of Southern Arizona 3822 E. River Rd., Tucson, Az. 85718.
