Shirley passed away peacefully in her sleep while at home after a nearly 25 year battle with Alzheimer’s Disease (AD). She is now with her husband Jack D Johnson, after 56 years of marriage. She is survived by her Children (Paula, Erik & Linda, Greg & Barb, Vince), Grandchildren (Katy, Corey & Lindsay, Zach, Eli & Mary, Anthony, Gabe & Ashlyn), and Great Grandchildren (Maxwell and Oliver).
Shirley received her degree from San Diego State in fashion design and art, but found her passion as an elementary teacher, which began in San Diego (her hometown). After starting her family with Jack, they headed to Minneapolis while Jack pursued his PhD, she taught and had fun in the snow with her children. The family moved to Tucson in 1970 where she taught elementary school until her retirement in the mid-90’s. She was creative and loved engaging her students in the arts as well as the other disciplines. She was a loving and dedicated mother and always had a flare to make any event fun. Her creative spirit was expressed in every craft or art project she undertook, taught, or shared. Shirley was involved in Christ Presbyterian Church and as an alumni of her AXO sorority until AD made it too difficult, but she remained interested in art and her passion for reading. She loved her pets, but especially her children and grandchildren, and was so proud of the wonderful people they have become.
She will be greatly missed by all who loved and knew her. Rest in peace and paint with God … free of Alzheimer’s Disease. We love you.
