Richard Olivas Romo, our beautiful beloved. He left us on a Wednesday and is now with our Heavenly Father. Although we all owe this debt, it is difficult saying goodbye to our loved one. We are absolutely desolated . . . our hearts forever altered. He will remain present in our hearts leaving behind timeless memories for us to cherish.
Our Richard, the king of kings, was a loving and caring son, brother, father, grandfather, and friend. Richard had always said, too many times to remember, that his one true and only accomplishment in life was his children and grandchildren, a love beyond measure. Let us lift our hearts to the heavens to remember the love he has given us and that every day he did his best. Our love for him will not fade or diminish. We are grateful for all the moments.
Thinking back to the beginning, as a child Richard was passionate about horses. He genuinely loved horses and during childhood was fortunate enough to have had his very own pony named Pretty Boy. Richard loved being on a ranch, surrounded by horses and in youth he was a bull rider living on the edge (rode bulls competitively). He was skilled artistically, he sketched beautiful drawings and it is no surprise most of his exquisite creations were of horses. He did not have much growing up, but what he had was enough and had an unwavering willingness to share the little he did have with others. He was kind and soulful.
Richard always held his head high even in mid-life when battling the many ailments and trials life sometimes presents. He was a fighter in life showing us great strength, courage, and had much gratitude for what blessings remained. Special consideration and high regards to his mother Armida who had the love and foresight to take care of his end-of-life arrangements before leaving this earth, sister Antoinette (legal guardian) who cared for him when he could not, and Autumn House Assisted Living his second home provided him with loving care (Jonathan Arroyo and staff-members).
Today we honor Richard by these words written, by the love we carry in our hearts, by the numbers that gather to share stories and to provide a tearful farewell. The hurts we feel where we find the holy, we are made whole by faith and grace. Today we grieve and mourn him with much sadness and sorrow, but through the grace of God when healing comes, light will shine through the darkness, we shall celebrate that amongst the billions of people out there he shared his journey with us. Go with God . . . our lives less beautiful.
He is survived by his biological father Alex Lopez, Step-Father Roy Romo, his siblings Patricia Carley, Antoinette Islas (Joseph R. Maldonado), Diane Moreno (Andy), Romeo Strohacker (Steve), Martin Romo, Christina Peña Sorum (Scott), Alita Lopez (Brandon), his children Rene Ricardo's Romo (Gilliene), Nikita Riki Elliot (James), Alexandria Starr Yazzi (Brandon), his grandchildren Ricardo, Rylee, James III, Aspen, Cruz, Rosalette, Esme, Raphael, Rain, and many uncles, aunts, cousins, nephews, and nieces.
Proceeded in death by his mother Armida Olivas Kays, brother Alexander Romo, sister Soyla Lopez, and sister-in-law Jennifer Romo.
PRAYER: Eternal rest grant unto him, O’Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him. May his soul, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen. Like the seed buried in the ground, you have produced the harvest of eternal life for us; make us always dead to sin and alive to God.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation on Friday, January 5, 2024, from 3-5 PM at Funeraria Del Angel, 7 East University Blvd., Tucson, AZ 85705. The Rosary will be recited at 4:00 PM.
