Dr. Richard Clinton Mott passed away in Tucson, Arizona at the age of 77 on November 11, 2022 surrounded by family. Richard was born on October 20th, 1945 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Clinton Parker Mott and Marion Egbert. He was raised in Salt Lake City with his sister Elaine and brothers Roger and Brian. Richard has now joined his brother Brian after a long awaited reunion since Brian’s passing due to leukemia when he was only twelve years old. Richard graduated from Olympus High School in 1963 and joined the Army National Guard and was sent to Fort Ord in California for basic training. He later served a 2 ½ year mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Finland and remained an active member of the church throughout his life. He attended college at the University of Utah where he met his beautiful wife Jerilyn “Jeri” Rubisch. They were married in 1970 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple and sealed for time and all eternity. He received his Doctor of Podiatric Medicine degree from California College of Podiatric Medicine in San Francisco, California and practiced as a podiatrist at Fairchild Air Force Base (Spokane, WA); Sandy, Utah; Vernal, Utah; Davis Monthan Air Force Base (Tucson, AZ), and in Northwest Tucson for many years as the founding partner of Desert Podiatric Medical Specialists. He continued to work as a podiatrist for the Air Force Reserves throughout his career. Shortly after Richard’s retirement, he received a kidney transplant from his son Tyler. He was grateful for the extra 12 years of life it afforded. He was a loving husband to his wife of 52 years and father of four sons and four daughters, and twenty two grandchildren–they were the source of his greatest joy. Richard enjoyed spending time with his family and taking them on vacations and “adventures”–Disneyland, Hawaii, snow skiing, waterskiing, and camping to name just a few. He loved telling stories about his life to family and found humor in telling many “Dad Jokes” to his children. Richard was also a mentor to many young men through his service in the Boy Scouts of America and had fond memories of his backpacking trips with the scouts specifically at Philmont Scout Ranch in Cimarron, NM. He was very proud that all four of his sons earned their Eagle Scout Award. Richard and Jeri would go above and beyond to help family, friends and even strangers in need and unselfishly welcomed anyone into their home. They often traveled long distances to support family for special events and occasions. Many individuals benefited from his service and generosity. Richard will be greatly missed by his family and loved ones.
Richard is survived by his wife Jeri and eight children Deborah (Michael) Walters; Bryce (Lara) Mott; Rebecca (Devan) Thompson; Tyler (Judy) Mott; Steven (Emily) Mott; Edward (Kacey Hoover) Mott; Elaina; and Noelle; sister Elaine (Max) Kieffer; brother Roger (Julie) Mott. Richard is preceded in death by his parents Clinton and Marion Mott and younger brother Brian Mott
