Born in 1943 in Torrington, CT, to the late Howard and Sophie Tofield, he is survived by his daughter, Jennifer (Tofield) Fonyi, her husband Jdea and their son Colin. He became close with Jdea, and stepped in as a father figure after their marriage. He enjoyed spending time with his grandson Colin, and was extremely proud of his school accomplishments. He is also survived by his brother, Robert Tofield, nieces Sandra and Debbie, and nephew David, whom he recently saw in Georgia. It was a trip he almost didn’t make due to his health, but was so glad he did. He is also survived by his companion of several years, Sandy Figueroa, who was instrumental in his care recently, and was with him when he passed.
Norman began working for Western Electric in CT. After falling in love with Arlene Carlson, they married in 1972. Before Jennifer was born, they began Tofield’s RV in Farmington, CT and continued the company for several years. After its closure, they continued their passion for RVs, working for dealerships in Illinois and Florida, before settling at a dealership in Tucson, AZ in 1996. They divorced in 2000, and Norm continued his work in Tucson, and cared for his parents until their passing.
One of Norm’s passions in life, was automobiles. He owned several over his lifetime. Among them, a 1957 Buick that was a surprise Christmas gift from Arlene. Loving his family more, he sacrificed his beloved Buick, so that they could acquire a home in Florida. In 2008, he purchased his ultimate dream car and regularly joined in on auto shows and cruises with his Viper Club family, humbly bringing home trophies and new friendships.
Norm was hard working and entrepreneurial, but he did not skimp on life’s rewards. He leaves behind countless friends, acquaintances, and co-workers who fondly remember the rich experiences and good times they’ve had together over the years. Funeral services will be held at a later date. Please check back here for details or to leave condolences, sympathies, or tributes.
