Maria Vasquez was born June 13, 1941, in Nogales, Arizona to Jose and Josefa Ortiz. Maria was the youngest of ten children. Maria graduated high school from Nogales High in 1960. Shortly after she moved to Tucson, Arizona. She received an entry level nursing degree at Saint Mary's as a License Practical Nurse. Later she became a caregiver and loved all her patients.
Maria loved her family, drinking Pepsi, and a beer every now and then. She had a great desire for anything sweet and camping in Ruby, Arizona with her family. Maria was known for her sense of humor and strong will to fight in life. She was a beloved Mother, very devoted to her grandchildren, and a dedicated great grandmother. Maria was known for many things, a few to share, she was given an Outstanding Citizen of Tucson award in 1983 by the mayor for saving a 3-year-old boy and she had the longest kidney transplant in the state of Arizona which took place at the V.A. Hospital in 1963.
Maria is proceeded in death by her parents, Jose G. Ortiz and Josefa V. Ortiz, her son, Pedro G. Vasquez Jr. and her brother and sisters, Socorro O. Majalca, Gerardo Ortiz, Genoveva O. Castro, Ernestina O. Velasco, Jose V. Ortiz, Aurelia O. Gonzales, Natalia O. Hernandez, Jesus V. Ortiz, and Margie O. Noriega.
Maria is survived by her daughter Priscilla Martinez. Grandchildren Crystal (Rene) Vasquez, Joey (Roxanne) Martinez, Monique (Eddie) Vasquez, Deanna (Oscar) Martinez, Peter Vasquez, Vanessa Ochoa, Jesus (Elena) Martinez, Mercedes Vasquez, Marisela Vasquez, and many great grandchildren who she loved and adored!
Memorial Services for Maria A. Vasquez will be held July 28, 2022, at Funeraria del Angel from 3:00-5:00 P.M.
Celebration of life to follow at El Casino Ballroom 5:00-8:00 P.M.
