Kathryn, better known simply as Grandma Katie to her family and all who knew her, was born in Little Rock, Arkansas, on May 15, 1927, the only child of Nancy and Bruce Hardcastle. She grew up on the family farm, just outside of Little Rock in Jacksonville, Arkansas. She was an excellent student at Jacksonville High School, graduating in just three years and helped teach the senior class.
Kathryn is preceded in death by her husband, Kermit R Price (1985) and is survived by her son, Daniel H. Price (Sue), and daughter Sheree Cook (Chris). Her grandchildren Michael D. Price (Amber), Daniel B. Price (Elaena) and Eric Cook and by her seven great grandchildren who loved her dearly Jadon, Hannah, Bree, Amber Bauch (Tristan), Daniel (Amelia), Chase (better known as Chaseman) and Bailey Cook, the red-headed wonder.
The Price family, Kathryn, Kermit and seven-year-old Daniel H. Price moved from Arkansas to Tucson in 1952. Kathryn worked as an administrative clerk at the University of Arizona. Before her retirement, Kathryn began one of her most important journeys — to care for Kermit (Kenny), a well-known teacher in Tucson who once ran for Superintendent of Schools.
Kathryn was the matriarch of the Price family — soft spoken, caring and loved by everyone. If any of her close friends or members of Emmanuel Baptist Church would need help or assistance all they had to do was call — the phone was always ringing and she helped so many, just the sound of her voice and the words, “What can I do for you?” would soothe the caller. She was simply the best human being on this earth, the best mother, the best grandmother, great grandmother and the friend to anyone and everyone she would come into contact with.
A special thanks goes out to Cascades of Tucson and all the caring caregivers who took wonderful care of her. Kathryn moved into Cascades in February of 2011. At that time, she lived in assisted living and her apartment included a beautiful view of the Catalina Mountains. Kathryn moved into the memory care facility at Cascades in 2015 and resided there until her death. Also a special “thank you” to Casa de la Luz and for all of their caring assistance, especially in her final hours on this earth.
A Memorial Service will be held at East Lawn Cemetery, 5801 E. Grant Road, on May 19, 2018 at 10 A.M.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Society.
