With a friend by her side, Judith Jolley, a resident of Tucson since 1994, passed away on May 11, 2024, at the age of 82. Judy was born on October 29, 1941, in Johannesburg, South Africa, the youngest daughter of Louis and Eleanor McCarthy. In 1963 at the age of 20, she moved to London and thereafter married Michael Jolley in Hunstanton, Norfolk, England, in 1967. Michael and Judy moved to the United States in 1973, first living in New York and Connecticut, then Virginia, and finally moving to Tucson in 1994.
Judy was an exceptionally stylish and curious person, who loved to socialize and could strike up a conversation with anyone. She met many of her friends through church, golf, mahjong, theater, opera and movie group. She was passionate about the “Lunch Bunch Program” at St. Thomas the Apostle Church and for over twenty years organized the making of five hundred sack lunches for Casa Maria Soup Kitchen every month.
The memories of Judy’s kindness, strength and love will live forever in the hearts of those she touched. She will be missed by her many dear friends, as well as her eleven nieces and nephews in South Africa. She is predeceased by her parents, her siblings and her husband, Michael, who died in 2015.
A celebration of Judy’s life is planned for Saturday, June 1, at 10am, St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 5150 N. Valley View Road, followed by a reception in the Parish Hall. In lieu of flowers, Judy requested memorial
donations to Casa Maria Soup Kitchen, 352 E. 25th St., Tucson, AZ 85713.
Judy’s journey was made less painful because of the heartfelt kindness and compassion of Handmaker Rehabilitation and Assisted Living, as well as the loving team at Sunset Hospice. A grateful thank you is extended to all who were involved in her care. Arrangements by Desert Rose Heather Mortuary.
