Joyce grew up with an older brother and sister, Melvin E Lopp and Louise (Lopp)
Brantley. Early part of her life lived in Posey County Indiana in a small city of Mt. Vernon, the first few years in New Harmony, north of Mt. Vernon. She later worked as a waitress, an industry technician and finally a postal worker. She has been living with the effects of Berylliosis from breathing Beryllium dust contracted through her employment at one of the industrial plants.
Joyce Married Robert John Merritt on September 20, 1967, they were married 19 years and 5 months.
