James A Figner of Tucson Arizona passed away on November 5th, 2023, surrounded by his loving family. James was born in February 1937, in Albany New York, to James A Figner Sr., and Martha Figner, both of whom preceded their son in passing. James had three sisters and one brother, Barbara, Ruth, Grace, William C., all of whom preceded their brother in passing.
James is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Eleanor Figner. James is further survived by his daughters Theresa Swazzo, Patricia McCammack, and Susan Cinquegrana, and his son William Figner. James was the patriarch of a large and devoted family, and found himself grandfather to Joseph Mottes, Jennifer LaMoria, Amanda Small, James VanHeusen, Sean VanHeusen, Mark McCammack, Ryan Allen, Maxim Figner, John Cinquegrana, Angela Cinquegrana, and Julie Cinquegrana, all of whom survive their grandpa. James was preceded in passing by his grandson Jeremy Small. James was great-grandfather to Zachary Gauna, Hannah VanHeusen, Loreli VanHeusen, Annie VanHeusen, Corbin Sinkinson, Gavin Sinkinson, Onyx Allen, Zion Allen, Sophie VanHeusen, Colton VanHeusen, Cameron VanHuesen, and Zoe VanHeusen, all of whom survive their great-grandfather.
James began his career with proud military service in the United States Army from August 1955 to September 1958, where he attained the rank of SP5. After his honorable discharge, James entered into a career as a computer hardware and software specialist, and worked for the United States Department of Defense, for the Federal Government of the United States of America in Fort Monmouth, NJ.
Following retirement, James was a man of many hobbies, finding joy in every corner of life. He was an apt guitar player, and cultivated a love of music with his children and grandchildren; he enjoyed square-dancing with his beloved wife Eleanor, and was a member of the Dixie Daisy Squares. He demonstrated a love of sailing, as a part of the Barnegat Bay Sail Club, and developed a knack for playing cards. Above all else, James adored his family, and took every opportunity he could to spend time with them.
James was a member of St. Peter and Paul Catholic church, and in lieu of flowers, family requests that donations be made to the parish, or to St. Jude's Children's Hospitals.
James was a dedicated and devoted man, who shone with a light which filled every room. His memory will be cherished in the hearts of his family, friends, and all those who had the great opportunity to know him. His passing is deeply mourned by all those whom he loved and who loved him.
