James Anthony Cox

James Anthony (Tony) Cox was born June 27, 1944, in Louisville, KY, to James Henry Cox and Lottie Mires Cox. He was baptized as a young man at South Louisville Christian Church and spent his life serving Jesus. Some of his best memories were the weeks in summer he spent at White Mills Christian Camp. He played on the church softball team and on the chess team at Louisville Male High School. Tony graduated with a degree in Economics from the University of Louisville.

Tony loved to travel. He and his wife Marsha visited 49 countries and six continents. Tony also visited 47 states and many national parks. Some of Tony’s favorite things were being with his children and grandchildren, reading, watching U of L basketball and UGA football, playing with his dogs, eating fish at the Suburban Lodge and Kingfish, playing pinochle, and working in the yard.

He was a church elder, greeter, and a long-time Bible Bowl sponsor. He had dear friends at Northwest Christian Church, in Acworth, GA, where he served for 33 years. He was currently a member at Pantano Christian Church in Tucson, AZ.

Tony was retired from DCASR-Atlanta and also the Lockheed-Martin Corporation. During his career with the Defense Department he lived in St. Marys, GA; Greeneville, TN; Wilmington, NC; Rex, GA; Marietta, GA; and Acworth, GA.

Tony leaves behind, to cherish his memory, his wife of 49 years, Marsha Ragsdale Cox, his beloved children, Leah Stokes (Chris) and Andrew Cox, and his precious grandchildren, Zoe Elizabeth Stokes, Gabriel James Cox, and Kayla Rose Stokes. He is also survived by one sister, Pamela Johnson, sister-in-law Susan McSwain (Mike), mother-in-law, Edna Ragsdale, one niece, three nephews, and many cousins and friends.

Tony died of bladder cancer on Sunday, April 7, 2019, in Tucson, Arizona at the age of 74.

In lieu flowers, expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations in his memory to White Mills Christian Camp, PO Box #129, White Mills, KY, 42788.

Tony will be buried at East Lawn Palms Mortuary and Cemetery on Tuesday 4/16/19

Viewing will begin at 1:00 p.m.

Services will begin at 2:00 p.m.

Burial will be at 3:00 p.m
