November 26, 1919 – July 30, 2014
Elsie went to heaven during the early morning hours of July 30, 2014 at the age of 94. An open visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 6, from 10:00 to 11:00 AM at the East Lawn Palms Mortuary, 5801 E Grant Road followed by her funeral service at 11:00 and the graveside committal.
Elsie was born in Springfield, Illinois on November 26, 1919 to Sophie and Gustav Ferchow and she was brought to her Lord through the sacrament of Holy Baptism as an infant. She was joined in matrimony on September 15, 1940 to Harold Frederick McCoy. They were blessed with four children during 15 years of marriage before his death in September, 1956. Elsie married Robert Phillips in June, 1959, when the family welcomed Robert’s son, Bobby Phillips, into the family. Robert pre-deceased Elsie in December, 1998.
She was also preceded in death by her sister, Elizabeth Darrow, and two brothers, Wilbert and Stuart Ferchow.
Elsie was a lifelong Lutheran and has been a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church since moving to Tucson in 1949. She served on the Ladies Aid, as a Girl Pioneer leader, visited the shut-ins, and was involved in many other church functions. She loved the fellowship and friendship she found in her church family. She and her family spent many happy times camping in the White Mountains of Arizona and in later years had a summer home there. Elsie loved to fish.
She is survived by her children Sue Ann Arnold and husband Ray; Nancy McCoy-Fennell and husband John; Harold Richard “Dick” McCoy and wife Betty; Gloria Duerr and husband Jerre; and Bobby Phillips and wife Marta; grandchildren Billy Ray Arnold, Tatiana Masters, Heather Jarvis, Morgan Fennell, Phineas Fennell, Michael McCoy, Brian McCoy, Brooke Lavassar, Brad Fraser, Jason Duerr, Jeremy Duerr, Stephanie Cera, Chris and Tracy Phillips, and 16 great grandchildren.
