It is with heavy hearts that we share the news of the passing of our beloved Husband, Father, Grandfather and Great Grandfather, Daniel James Jacob Sr, also known as “Jimmy”, “Danny”, “Pop” and “Grampy”. Dad came into this world on October 25, 1930, in Tucson Arizona at 8:00pm in his home. Other than his Military Service he lived his entire life in Tucson. He passed peacefully in his sleep at home on November 10, 2024.
Dad was a devoted family man. He was a proud second generation Lebanese American and the youngest son of William Elias Jacob and Rose Coury (Jacob). He was married just shy of 70 years to the love of his life, Rae Ann Morgan of Minneapolis, Minnesota, who he proposed to four days after meeting her, the daughter of Effie Marie Abdo and Raymond Patrick Dolan and Donald Edward Morgan.
Dad dedicated his life to his family, church, community, and Country. He was a man of deep faith and a devout Catholic recognized by the Church, along with Mom, as a Knight (and Lady) of the Holy Sepulcher. He grew up exploring the great open spaces around Tucson and as an adult loved doing so from the back of his horse. A lifelong learner, he obtained his private pilot license in his 50’s, and would fly his Cessna over to Sonora to fish the Sea of Cortez in the heat of summer and gaze at the stars while contemplating the universe. He was a proud member of the Los Charros del Desierto for nearly fifty years and looked forward to riding his beloved appaloosa “Blaze” with his compadres around Sonoita each year. Dad was immensely proud of being the first member of his family clan to graduate from college – matriculating from the second class at the UofA College of Pharmacy in 1952. An accomplished and successful pharmacist and businessman, Dad owned and operated over eleven retail pharmacies during his career, touching the lives of many. The recipient of multiple awards of recognition during his career, including the coveted Bowl of Hygeia, Dad also served as President of the Arizona State Board of Pharmacy for over 15 years. He served our Country as a Captain in the Air Force during the Korean War and deeply admired his brothers, cousins and friends who served in World War II to defend our Nation’s freedoms. With a “Grampy-tini” in his hand, he could also be very playful with those he loved, and delighted in telling his grandchildren stories (some of them tall) about family history.
Dad was the last surviving and longest living sibling of eight brothers and sisters: George William (Emily) Jacob, Helene Roslyn (John Abdo), Wallace Ellis “Wally” (Mary) Jacob, Cecilia Ann “Cele” (Donald Schieck), William Ellis “BI” Jacob, Marlene Francis (Honon Thomas), and Mary Theresa “Snookie” (Dino Calvarese).
Dad left behind a legacy that includes his six children and their spouses: Daniel James Jacob Jr (Soonalyn Bhappu), Kimberly Ann Jacob (Paul Olson), Elizabeth Mary Rose Jacob (Paul Wood), Jeffrey Edward Jacob (Deborah Howard), Rodney James Jacob (Enedina Lacson), Randel William Jacob (Tamberly Figueroa); and twelve grandchildren and their spouses: Jinnyn Daniel Jacob, Daniel James Jacob III (Maria Miguelina de la Bravo), Coury Roshan Jacob (Nikolette Huberman), Raymond Boman Jacob, Morgan Olson (Lexi Matson), Marco Elias Lacson Jacob, Maya Consuelo Lacson Jacob, Kris Olson (Nicole), Kory Olson (Becky), Thomas Wood, Carl Wood (Rochelle), Elana Rae Jacob, Johannah Rose Jacob, Ellis Randel Jacob; and his eight great-grandchildren: Sofia Marie Jacob, Daniela James Jacob IV, Bennett Paige Jacob, Boman Bernard Jacob, Kyla Rose Wood, Dakota Rae Wood, Nina Olson, and Rosie Olson.
Dad had more cousins than most, and enough nieces, nephews and godchildren to have their own rodeo. He also leaves behind his beloved brother and sister in-law, John Edward & Kathy Jo (Duffy) Morgan, their three children and six grandchildren.
The family would like to thank Grace Hospice and our home health caregivers.
