Betty was born in Sioux City, IA, raised in Emerson, Nebraska, graduated as valedictorian of her high school class and attended Wayne State Teacher’s College. After college, while working in Sioux City, she met Al and they married in 1949. After a few moves with the military, roots were put down in Falls Church, VA. In 1970 Betty and Al moved the family back to their beloved Arizona and made Tucson their home for life.
Betty made lots of friends working at The Broadway department store, but always had family first in her heart and actions.
She loved to dance, and she and Al were involved with square dancing for many years.
Betty and Al both felt called to serve, volunteering with House of Neighborly Service, Casa Maria, the local Household Hazardous Waste program, and their favorite, their church home Christ Presbyterian Church. Betty worked with Eastside Neighbors Volunteer Program until July of this year. She always put others before herself, and was a gracious and loving role model for all who knew her.
A celebration of her life will be held Tuesday, September 29th, 2015 at 2 pm (yes, today) followed by a reception at Christ Presbyterian Church located at 6565 E. Broadway, Tucson, AZ. In Lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Betty’s memory to Eastside Neighbors Volunteer Program (http://www.tucsonenvp.com/) or Christ Presbyterian Church, both in Tucson.
