March 24, 1927 ~ December 28, 2020 (age 93)
Tucson, Arizona - Bertha S. Hansen, 93, of Tucson, peacefully passed away Monday evening December 28th, 2020.
Berdie was a part of the Great Generation and she epitomized all that made it great. Born in Cleveland, Ohio on March 24th, 1927, the child of Frank and Charlotte Sadauskas.
Upon graduating from High School, Berdie served in the Marine Corp reserves. She always had a strong love for her country, as well as a strong devotion to the Catholic faith. Once settled back in Cleveland, Berdie went into banking, during which time she met the love of her life William (Bill) G. Hansen and in 1964 they were married. They both had a love of travel, so together, they traveled extensively all over the
world dragging along their two children, Carrie and Bill. Berdie was first and foremost a loving wife and a loving, caring mother. She provided a nurturing and loving home atmosphere allowing for the development of her children into strong, productive, and caring adults.
Berdie and Bill also had a passion for food so they decided to open a delicatessen
at a large mall in the Cleveland area. Their children were a part of the team and
participated in the operation of the restaurant. Truly a family affair.
As if raising a family, running a restaurant, and traveling the world weren’t enough
to keep her busy, she was also an avid crocheter. She created many stunning
afghans, many of which were donated to charities in the Cleveland area.
In 1984 they packed up the clan and relocated to Tucson, Arizona to begin their
retirement years. But it didn’t take long for the pair to get antsy, so Berdie and her
husband started the Tucson Seniors Getaway Club. That travel bug had caught
them again and for over a decade they hosted seniors for excursions all over the
world, spreading their love of travel to all those willing to explore.
Berdie was a longtime parishioner of St. Thomas the Apostle church.
Berdie was preceded in death by her husband and soulmate William G. Hansen and
her brother George Sadauskas.
She leaves behind, to hold on to her precious memory, her two adoring children
William L. Hansen and Carrie (Patrick) Kinnison, and grand-kitty Zoey.
Berdie’s family wishes to express appreciation to all that are offering condolences
at this time but have elected to have private services due to the outbreak of the
Coronavirus.
There will be a private funeral service at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church.
Burial will take place at Our Lady of the Desert Cemetery, 2151 South Avenida
Los Reyes, Tucson, AZ. 85748.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the professional care of the East Lawn Palms
