Auwelda E. Weir

Auwelda Leathers Weir, best known as “Peach,” passed into Gods hands on May 3, 2013 at the age of 92. Peach was born on November 26, 1920 in Livingston, MT. She was the youngest daughter of Lydia and Lewis Leathers. She was preceded by her husband Col. Robert Adam Weir in 1969. Peach was also preceded by her sisters Louise Bradford, Elizabeth Sheldon, and Geraldine Larson, as well as her brothers William and Lewis Leathers.

Peach leaves behind her three loving daughters and their spouses, Connie Lou McBroom of Oakton, VA, Karen Irene Wachtmeister (Edward C.A.) of Warrenton, VA, and Carol Ann White (Barry S.) of Rolla, MO.

She has 6 grandchildren and their spouses: Robert M. McBroom (Julie) of Park City, UT, April M. Deen (Adrian) of Edgewater, NJ, Erik C.R. Wachtmeister (Christie) of Aspen, CO, Carl E.A. Wachtmeister of Jersey City, NJ, Brandon A. White (Lauren) of Medford, OR, and Alicia E. White of St. Louis, MO. Peach also had 7 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews spread across the United States.

Peach was a lifelong devoted Lutheran and a member of Fountain of Life Lutheran Church, Tucson, AZ for 44 years. She and husband Bob traveled the world, after he served as a US Army Air Corps pilot during World War II. Bob enlisted on Dec 8, the day after Pearl Harbor, and they were married in New Orleans after he completed pilot training and before shipping off to Europe. After the war, Bob and Peach were stationed around the United States, in places like Fort Worth, TX, Omaha, NE, Wichita, KS, Mtn Home AFB, ID, March AFB, CA, Montgomery, AL, the Pentagon, and Vicenza, Italy. As the wife of a career Air Force pilot, Peach was the consummate hostess and volunteer for a variety of military organizations. She easily and willingly adapted to the changes in military assignments and to the task of establishing a new home for her family. After Bob passed away, Peach traveled to many exciting places such as: Australia, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Germany, Austria, China, Hong Kong, the Caribbean Islands, multiple trips to Italy, France, Spain, Portugal and many different cruises. Peach probably traveled to every state in the Union at some point, but Montana or wherever her children and grandchildren were living were her favorite places to visit.

Peach always found a way to visit her daughters and their families every year until her mobility simply wouldn’t allow her to travel. She was an annual Christmas visitor to her daughters’ families, establishing traditions that will carry on in her passing. Peach instilled the strength of family and togetherness that endures with her daughters and generations to follow. Her generous nature and giving attitude was the cornerstone of her life. As she put it, “I’d rather give it all to my kids and grandchildren than try to take it with me!”

For the past five years she has been a resident at The Cascades of Tucson, an assisted living center where she was lovingly cared for by the staff. She had many friends at The Cascades and considered her Lutheran Church friends her extended family. During her stay at The Cascades, Peach was also looked in on by her many friends, with the church family always finding a way to take her to church and to other outings. Peach’s daughters would like to thank all the people who have lovingly cared for their mother over the years.

In accordance with her wishes, Peach shall be laid to rest next to her husband Robert at East Lawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, her family asks that donations be given to the Fountain of Life Lutheran Church in Tucson, AZ. A celebration of her life will be held at the Fountain of Life Lutheran Church on 6/10/2013.
