Shirley Mae Thompson Jones, 83 of Stone Mountain, GA passed away November 4, 2018. Mrs. Jones was born in Saint Louis, Mo. September 19, 1935. She graduated from Harris Teachers College and became a flight attendant for Trans World Airlines (TWA) in 1955. She married her late husband William R Jones on November 2, 1957. She lived in Annandale, VA for 37 years where she worked as a Contract Negotiator for the U.S. Navy and retired to Stone Mountain, GA in 2004.
She is survived by her oldest son, William B. Jones of Douglasville, GA, daughter Julie A. Jones of Decatur, GA, son Bradford R. Jones of Spotsylvania, VA. Mrs. Jones has 4 grandchildren, William, Donna, Nikita and Brianna. She is preceded in death by her siblings, Don, Patricia, William and Butch.
Shirley was a Christian woman who loved her family very much. She loved to dance. She had a laugh that was Infectious and she would laugh until tears rolled down her face. Born of simple means in inner city St. Louis, Shirley drove to improve her circumstance and achieve her dreams her whole life. Shirley made friends easily and loved to socialize. Her kindness and good nature won the hearts of all who knew her and she will be greatly missed by her family, friends and those who cared for her. Mrs. Jones’ extended family included the staff at Pebblebrook at Park Springs where she resided the last ten years of her life.
Memorial Services will be held on Saturday, November 10 at 2:00 pm at St. Mark United Methodist Church, Atlanta. The family will receive friend at Floral Hills Funeral Home on Friday night from 6:00 until 8:00 pm
