A native of Atlanta, Georgia she was a lifelong resident. She graduated from Murphy High School in 1960-61.
• She began work at Atlantic Telephone & Telegraph Company in approximately 1965, joining her Father, Charles Otto Porterfield, who was also a lifelong employee at AT&T. She eventually retired from AT&T after more than 38 years of service in various clerical and supervisory positions.
• In her private life, she notably was active for many years as a volunteer and leader of the “Self Help For Hard of Hearing People” (SHHH) non-profit organization (now referred to as the “Hearing Loss Association of America,”) serving in various positions as President and advocate for education of all peoples, industry, medical community, and the government concerning the nature, causes and remedies to hearing loss.
• She was a devoted Mother and Grandmother, always available to share her thoughts and values about life, living in the South, cooking, and healthy living.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles Otto and Edith Patterson Porterfield, and her brother, Charles B Porterfield. She is survived by her Son, Eric Vonn Kristin, his wife Theresa Hoffer Kristin, and three grandchildren, Lauren, Grace, and Jacob. Memorial services will be held on Wednesday, 21 December at 2 pm at Floral Hills Funeral Home in Tucker, Georgia followed by Inurnment at Floral Hills Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at 12 pm at Floral Hills Funeral Home prior to the funeral service.
