Curtis Roosevelt Lyons, Jr., was born on March 10, 1979 in the Bronx, NY to Curtis Roosevelt Lyons, Sr. and Katie Ellen Lyons. Shortly thereafter, the family relocated to Petersburg, VA where he would be raised and form everlasting bonds.
Curtis, though his life was tragically cut short at 45 years of age, lived a full and storied life marked by career accomplishments, world travel and most of all Family. He is survived by his devoted wife Lisa Hicks Lyons, children Rahnier Khalid, Brielle Marie, Mekai Dylan, Sage Regina and Alexander Christian Lyons. He was also deeply loved by his sisters, Zina Woodson, Tyra Taylor, Tuana Lee, Kim Lyons, Catrina Lyons, Latisha Lyons and Crystal Lyons, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles who also hold him dear.
From an early age Curtis’s natural athletic ability made him a stand-out in sports. He was a multi-sport athlete and excelled at all of them, however, his passion was basketball. He played for a few years in college before he was picked up by a professional team overseas. He would play a few years in France and meet lifelong friends before returning to the States. After his return, he played on the NY Jets practice squad. This impressive background in sports made him a natural for his next adventure as a professional stuntman.
Curtis turned his new adventure into a decades-long career as a professional stuntman and appeared in many movies, commercials and television series over the years. Due to his dedication, professionalism, and natural abilities, other opportunities within the industry became available to him. Curtis found a love of other facets of the film industry, adding actor, stunt coordinator and writer credits to his diverse resume. His credits include SAG Award nominations for Actor in a stunt ensemble for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 (2024) and The Matrix Resurrections (2022) to name a few.
On set Curtis exuded strength, reliability, and loved sharing his advice and knowledge with others. Though he took his work seriously and was a professional in every sense of the word, he was easy-going and quick to smile, laugh and offer a kind word.
Above all, Curtis was a dedicated family man. He enjoyed spending time with his wife and kids, hosting family gatherings, holidays, trips and loved attending school functions and coaching his son’s basketball team. Curtis left an indelible mark on all who knew him and will remain in the hearts of so many. We celebrate his life knowing that “Even though roads twist and turn and come to ends,” as a Christian, he is now embraced by the glory of God.
