Alice Bradley Ford Stein, 98, died peacefully at her residence at Phoenix Senior Living, in Tucker, GA. She was born on January 4, 1920 in Owenton, KY. She was the daughter of Col. Robert C. Ford and Florrie Rodman Ford. Alice had 5 sisters and 5 brothers. She was predeceased by her husband Raymond B. Stein, Jr. and her son Gary F. Stein. She is survived by her sons Ronald B. and Cindy Stein of Decatur, GA, and Brent A. and Carolyn Stein of Meansville, GA. She is also survived by her sister Elizabeth Latimer Tanner of Cynthiana, KY. In addition Alice is survived by 3 grandchildren, Donna A. Brat and her son, Alice’s great-grandson, Miller Ray Perkins of Atlanta, Ga; Nicholas B. Stein of Atlanta, GA and Zachary H. and Whitney Stein of Charlotte, NC. She was looking forward to the birth of her great-granddaughter in November. In addition she is also survived by Dandi and Brandon Johnson and their 2 children of Griffin, GA and Nicole and Kevin Cope and their 2 children of Gahanna, OH. and many nieces and nephews.
After graduation from Owen County (KY) High School, Alice attended business school in DeLand FL. She worked in Chattanooga TN and Oak Ridge TN where she met her husband Ray while they were both working on The Manhattan Project. They were married for 68 years before he died in November 2014.
Alice followed Ray to many cities across the US and worked raising her sons. After her sons were grown she also worked in several offices including Emory Law School Library and The GA Crippled Children’s Program (now Children’s Medical Services).
She and Ray spent many years square dancing and was a long time member of Briarcliff Baptist Church. She spent her life taking care of everyone around her. She will be remembered for her storytelling about the adventures and misadventures of her childhood in Owenton, KY. She always placed others’ needs above her own and was able to make the smallest insignificant things grand and exciting.
Her family would like to thank her caregivers and the staff at Phoenix Senior Living and Hospice Atlanta for their kindness, patience and care for the past 3 years.
A graveside service will be held, Sunday September 16 at 3:00 pm at Floral Hills Memory Gardens with Rev. John Blackmon officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00- 3:00 at Floral Hills Funeral Home prior to the service.
