Frank was born on Aug. 27, 1937 in Traverse City, the son of Art and Laura (Buchan) Allen. After graduating from Central High School in 1956, he enlisted in the United States Army for 9 years and served as Military Police in Germany. Frank was a Leelanau County Sheriff’s Deputy for 14 years then work for Ridgedale Security in Minneapolis for 23 years. After retiring in 2003, he moved back to his beloved log cabin in Cedar where he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and restoring old trucks. Frank also enjoyed spending time four wheeling in the desert of Arizona. On June 26, 1992, Frank married his best friend and love of his life, Kaye (Grunwald) Larson.
Frank is survived by his wife, Kaye Allen; son, Mike (Ruth) Allen Sr.; grandchildren, Michael Jr, Laura, and Mackenzie; stepchildren, Nicole (Eric) Riley, Ryan (Lupita) Larson, and Roger (Sarah) Larson Jr.; step grandchildren, Aidan, Kieran, and Kalene; brother and sister in law, Dennis and Barb Grunwald; and nieces and nephew, Rhonda (Evan) Hansen, Cheryl Smith, and Richard Grunwald.
Preceding Frank in death are his parents, grandparents, and special aunt, Mabel Green.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of your choice and Frank would like you to take a friend out to lunch.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, Nov. 3, 2014 at 2 pm at Covell Funeral Home in Traverse City, with visitation starting at 1 pm. Burial will take place on Tuesday, Nov. 4 at 10 am at Solon Twp Cemetery in Cedar.
