Sister Joan Henehan died peacefully at Cedars Sinai Hospital in Los Angeles.
Joan and her three sisters were born in Chicago, Illinois and moved to San Diego in 1939. Joan followed her sisters to the Academy of Our Lady of Peace. Following her graduation in 1955, she entered Community.
Joan’s education included a Bachelor of Arts degree from Mount St. Mary’s College. She was awarded a Master’s degree in Theology, and a Master’s in Applied Spirituality from the University of San Francisco. Her professional background began as an elementary school teacher for nine years, secondary teacher, and then college Theology instructor. At Mount St. Mary’s College, she was also an Assistant Professor of Religious Studies and Chair of the Religious Studies Department for eleven years, serving at both campuses. She served in several administrative positions in v/provincial and congregational government.
Joan ministered with a generous and gracious spirit - through instruction, leadership, spiritual direction, and pastoral presence. She was a generous giver and gracious receiver of God’s life.

A Funeral Liturgy will be held on Wednesday, September 11, 2024 at Carondelet Center, 11999 Chalon Rd., Los Angeles, California at 10am followed by Luncheon. The committal service for Sister Joan will be held Wednesday, September 11, 2024 at 1pm at Holy Cross Cemetery, 5835 W. Slauson Avenue, Culver City, California.
