I went to Bonneville with Julie. Just this summer another classmate and I were catching up and ran across this photo and laughed about how much fun this trip was. Sorry for the pic quality, but it was a school trip to Mexico in summer 1985, I think.  Thought you'd enjoy seeing it.

Julie's contribution and energy to the diversity, equity, and inclusion committee for the Association for Nursing Professional Development will be missed. This memory is from the 2024 convention in Chicago where Julie helped facilitate tough conversations with a goal of letting people share and express complicated feelings. Thank you, Julie. Working with Julie was such a joy and she was a warm, loving and caring colleague.  I'm going to miss her terribly.  My heart is with all of you who loved her.

I worked with Julie at UCLA Health and she was such a pleasure to work with, such a wealth of knowledge, and always added a tidbit about her kiddos whenever she was faciliatating so that told me her children meant the world to her. I saw Julie about a month ago coming off the elevator and we both smiled and said hello. I will forever hold that memory of her because she was such a joy. Sending my prayers and condolences to Julie's children, family, and friends.

I had the honor of working with Julie on many patient education projects over the past few years. She was always kind, patient and exceedingly competent. She started every meeting by asking how I was doing, and when I expressed any frustration or overwhelm, she would always smile and tell me I was doing a great job. We spoke about our kids, and it was clear that she felt very proud of her children. She cared deeply about patient education and making sure that everyone received information that they could understand to help them make informed choices. I will really miss working with her and seeing her smile. My deepest condolences to her family and friends.

To Julie’s family and loved ones I want to extend my deepest condolences and love during this time. I am very heartbroken over the news. I’ve worked with Julie at UCLA on different projects and I have always looked up to her and loved being in the same room as her. She was one of the kindest souls I have ever met and always wanted to help others. Always with a smile on her face. Julie was brilliant and as kind as they come. These past few months I have had the privilege of getting closer to her on a personal level and she was always offering to bring me lasagna when I had some health complications. Julie left a huge mark on me through her passion for patient care, love for others, huge heart and her smile. I always felt so seen and understood by her. She was an incredible person and I am so devastated. We were just texting a week ago. Sending so much light and love to a dear friend and her family. I will miss you dear Julie.

I am deeply saddened by Julie’s passing. Family and friends, please accept my heartfelt condolences. I worked with Julie on a variety of projects and education pieces at UCLA. Julie, without fail, brought a bright smile, thoughtful energy, kind ways, and genuine demeanor to every single interaction I had with her. I will miss her spirit very much.

Julie was an amazing light to so many. She was always a joy to be around and cared deeply about her patients, community, and colleagues. I am glad I could have an opportunity to share space with her, learn from her, and be a colleague and friend. I share my deepest condolences to her family and loved ones. I  had the privilege of working with Julie on 7West for many years and often gave report to her when she would come into work the night shift. She was always so thorough and cared so much about her patients, and just about nursing in general. She was always smiling. I’m truly saddened to hear about her passing but know her legacy will be carried on through all the nurses at UCLA that she inspired and all the lives of the patients she touched. Rest in peace Julie.

Julie was so smart and kind and dedicated to helping patients.  She was excellent at educating the staff of UCLA. She made such an impact in the UCLA health system. May she rest in peace surrounded by love.

I was heartbroken to hear of Julie’s passing. She was an incredibly warm and generous person and an excellent nurse. I will always remember Julie’s passion for teaching others so patients would receive the best care. Her work on sepsis early recognition and management changed practice and saved lives. Her positive energy and compelling way of using stories to help people learn were inspiring. We were so fortunate to have her as a member of the Center for Nursing Excellence at UCLA Health. She made a tremendous difference in nursing education and practice. She will be greatly missed.

I am so thankful to have had the opportunity to call Julie friend.  She was the kindest and warmest soul I have ever met!  She was a true nurse's nurse.  She did everything for the patient.  My first memory of Julie was her teaching our sepsis class.  She shared her passion for patient care and the impact that sepsis had on her life - connecting the "why" to the importance of strong assessment skills and diligence to your practice.  I am a better person for knowing her and will miss her terribly.

I know Julie thru also working at UCLA . I’m not sure she would remember me but she educated so many of us . She was always so kind and energetic, a great educator and always happy to explain anything . She was brilliant ! She was well liked at UCLA, very sad for her passing .

Working with Julie was always such a pleasure.  She was truly gifted in her ability to drill down complex topics into something anyone could understand. It's not suprising that she was able to build such a strong patient education program in her few years with the Center. In the photo above, she was presenting her work with her mentor and champion, Jessica Phillips at the ANPD national meeting.  I loved supporting Julie's efforts to get her Master's degree and now truly value the time we worked together on that and during Re-Igniting the Spirit of Caring.  I'll miss you, Julie. Thank you for being so positive, so caring and so dedicated to your family, your colleagues and your profession.

I am saddened to hear about the passing of Julie. She was a remarkable nurse whose kindness and compassion touched the lives of so many. 
Julie was an inspiration to those around her. She was dedicated to making sure patient needs were met and worked diligently to promote sepsis prevention. 
I will always remember Julie’s genuine smile and nurturing presence. May her memory be a blessing and her light continue to shine in our lives.

I had the privilege of working alongside Julie for many years at UCLA health. Julie was incredibly smart and motivated by compassion for others. I’ll never forget when she first approached the leaders at UCLA and said, “I want to do a project on sepsis.” That was just the beginning! She began by teaching her colleagues on our nursing unit, but her talent, dedication and passion for the subject matter enabled Julie to raise awareness and provide education to literally thousands of employees at UCLA! She taught nurses, respiratory therapists, nurse practitioners, physicians, administrators and more. She moved full-time to the Department of Education so she could continue improving patient care across the health system.  I can only imagine how many patients have been impacted as well as lives saved because of the exemplary education Julie provided. That amazing legacy will live on because of her compassion for others. 
Julie was also an incredible artist, she started another project after the pandemic hit to bring comfort and inspiration to her nursing colleagues, and to relieve  everyone’s stress. She made incredible murals and mosaics that came alive in our hallway and added inspirational quotes… she did all of this in her spare time so we could experience something beautiful in the midst of chaos. My heart hurts to know that she is gone too soon. I send my deepest condolences to you, her family and loved ones, and pray that our heavenly Father will comfort you during this difficult time. 
Julie, I am so thankful for everything you have done and you will be greatly missed! I know one day we will meet again in heaven where I will hear your joyful laugh once more.

I loved Julie so much.  It put me in a panic when I found out she was missing and it felt like someone knocked the wind out of me when I found out she was gone. I will always remember the sound of her laugh. She was one of my favorite people!  I will never forget the fun we had as children and adults. She was so smart and I looked up to her in many ways. I wondered what she thought about everything and had planned to ask her many things about patient safety and quality when I finished the master's program I started at Johns Hopkins University.  I had lots of plans but when I recently found out I have advanced cancer and would need chemotherapy she understood my disappointment and asked if I would like her to fly here to Utah to help me.  I wish I had said yes! I do need Julie. The world needs Julie and people like her. When I would work on medical malpractice cases and needed an expert opinion I thought of her. I would call on her. She was a talented nurse and understood important things about infection control, sepsis management, and nursing.  More importantly, she was a compassionate cousin and friend.   Fear drives people to unthinkable choices and my heart breaks when I think about the choices she faced. Unless you've had to deal with things like she did or have formal education about situations like hers you will not understand.  Most people are not called on to deal with the complex problems she did. Some people are called on to the arithmetic version of life and others are called on to the Job or Calculus 3 version.  She was called on to the advanced version of life to face the hardest tests and problems. She faced many complex problems most people could not ever face, appreciate, and could never understand. I love you, Julie. I will miss you for the rest of my life.  May you rest in the arms of your father, and may you both rest in the arms of our Savior Jesus who knows everything.  I know I will see you again.

I was fortunate to have worked alongside your mother over the past 3 years as we co-chaired the Patient Education Workgroup for UCLA Health. Your mom was incredibly kind and thoughtful, extremely dedicated to ensuring that information was provided to patients in a way that was easily understandable. I learned an incredible amount from her and will miss her. May her memory be a blessing.
