Irene was born in Cleveland, Ohio in 1930, the youngest of nine children of her parents, Florian and Gizella Zavasky. She is survived by her daughters, Laura Carloni of Buellton, CA, Diana Carloni O’Malley and Diana’s husband, Charles O’Malley, of Phoenix, AZ. Irene was preceded in death by her husband, August G. Carloni, and son, Michael Carloni.
In her professional life Irene was a valued executive assistant in the fields of light manufacturing and electronics, especially working with IT in its infancy stages. She was a published author with her reflections on life published in various anthologies.
Her strength of character and commitment to others was evident in how she took care of people in many circumstances. From raising her children, to working with the Red Cross, to helping people begin new lives in California, and ultimately, being a caregiver to her brother, mother, husband, and son, her strength and commitment were unmatched. It was important to her to encourage these attributes in her children.
Irene leaned on her faith in our Lord to give her the strength to accomplish what she set out to do, especially when taking care of her husband and son. Even though her mobility was greatly reduced this past year, she attended Livestream Mass every Sunday, and received Communion every week. Always wanting to do something, daily prayer became her final way of taking care of everyone in her life’s circle.
