He is survived by his beloved wife, Carol (Andreachi) Johnson; his daughters, Barbara (Steve) Richardson and Janet Christiansen; his stepdaughter, Kathy Barone; his sons, Michael Johnson and stepson David (Laura) Reid.
George also leaves behind 10 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren and a niece and nephew.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Isabelle and Ralph Johnson; his sister, Marcia (Johnson) Guinasso; his brothers, William (Bill) Johnson and Robert Johnson; his daughter, Suzanne (Johnson) Dester and grandson Christopher Bagley.
George attended Sacred Heart Elementary and High School in Oelwein, Iowa, graduating in 1952. He continued his education at Iowa State College in Ames, Iowa, before enlisting in the U.S. Marine Corps in 1953, where he served in the Korean War until 1956.
In 1956, George began a long and distinguished career with Hughes Electronics Corp., contributing significantly to the Space Programs for 36 years. During his tenure, he earned an Associate in Arts degree from Santa Monica City College in 1959 and retired as a Senior Staff Materiel Manager in 1992.
A passionate sports enthusiast, George was an avid fan of the Los Angeles Angels, LA Rams, and Iowa State teams. He loved traveling across the United States in his RV, enjoying fishing, glamping, and playing cards. After marrying Carol in 2008, the couple embraced retirement together, finding joy in their shared adventures. George's life was marked by his dedication to his family, his career, and his hobbies. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
His Memorial Service will be held at Lighthouse Memorials & Receptions White & Day.
