Elizabeth Barbara Bauder,( Betty) 91, was born February 11, 1927 in Buffalo, New York and died
In Rancho Palos Verdes, California on December 7, 2018
In 1948, she married University of Buffalo Law School classmate George K. Gundlach. They graduated
in 1949. Together they moved to Springville, New York where she served 8 years as Police Justice for
the Village. Her service with the United Methodist Church in local, district, conference, national and
global areas included 16 years on the Judicial Council, one of the nine elected members of the highest
court of the Church.
They moved to Palm Bay, Florida in 1987. She moved to Rancho Palos Verdes, California in 2015.
She is survived by three daughters, Elizabeth of Gouverneur, Mary (Ted) Ross of Rancho Palos
Verdes ,CA and Gretchen (James Norton) of Gouverneur, Grandchildren Benjamin (Shelby) Hunkins,
Andrew, Thomas and Rachel Ross (Eric Lawson ), Great Grandchildren Fiona and Maxwell Hunkins and
AFS daughter Kumiko ( Shigeru), their daughters Mayuko and Sachiko Kuwabara. Also, she was loved by
the Koh family, Song, Judy, Michaela, Jennifer, Sarah and Curtis.
She is predeceased by George, her husband of 63 years, her brothers Frank and William Bauder and
son-in-law Robert Byhanna.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) or
Feeding America.
