Elizabeth (Liz) Coots, age 95, passed away peacefully in her sleep on the morning of January 13, 2017, in Los Angeles, CA. Born Elizabeth Ann Daly in 1921, Liz grew up in North Easton, Massachusetts where she met and married Harold George Coots, her husband of 64 years. Hal's work in the construction industry moved the family to Florida and finally to Redondo Beach in 1970. It was there that Liz fulfilled her dream of living at the beach, which she thoroughly appreciated for 43 years with daily walks along the ocean and hot coffee at the pier.
Liz was a peaceful and loving person who had a positive view of life and thought highly of everyone in her family. In the years she raised her three children, she performed her housework at night in order to spend the days enjoying her kids. Perhaps the only thing she loved more than good conversation was the opportunity to travel, which she did throughout her life, including a round-the-world trip with her daughter, Ellen, in 1972.
Liz was incredibly stylish and fashionable - Macy's stock may well drop upon the news of her passing. She also loved art and culture, visiting museums throughout the world and attending countless cultural events well into her 90's. Liz was fortunate to enjoy the friendships she made as a young girl throughout her life and she travelled to the East Coast most every fall for a few weeks with her girlfriends and the fall foliage. I believe she was the last surviving member of her friends, affectionately known as "The Club".
Liz was an excellent cook and lover of good food and rich coffee - she also never met a plain old fashion doughnut she didn't like. Her evening ritual included a glass of red wine and dark chocolate while listening to the waves crash on the beach. Liz had a life-long love of music and dancing - she met her husband at a dance and sang with her granddaughter a few hours before she passed away. At her 90th birthday party, Liz was the first one to hit the dance floor when the bagpipes came in! This is the legacy she leaves behind for her family: All of whom love music, most of whom sing and dance and many of whom play instruments and perform in bands.
"I loved you all and always will" - Elizabeth Coots, 2012
