I met brother at Ogun State University in 1987. He was assisting to build Ogun State University. We were both lodged at the Guest Gouse in Ago Iwoye.   I was on sabbatical from Unilag. I was Visiting Senior Lecturer and Head, Department of Political Science. Little did I know that he was my childhood friend's brother --- Kolade Oshinowo. But as soon as I introduced myself, he related to me instantly. He was a true academic, dedicated and passionate about teaching and research.   I stumbled on this obituary just now and thought it proper to pay tribute to a great pioneer. May his soul rest in peace.

This is a blow to the academia and the entire body of knowledge - A professional to the core. Dr Toks as was fondly called by friends and admirers . He taught me "Transport Phenomena " in my 3rd year in the department of Chemical Engineering of the University of Ife. Bubbling , lively , restless , helpful, clean , fashionable, young at heart, energetic, e.t.c -  Words fail me to describe exactly how I feel right now. A man so loved by the young and the elderly. For space constraints, I remember several accounts , but his first day in our class discussing "diffusion" describing it puffing  a "cigar" and later on "dimensional analysis"  stands out, he was so impressionable that I still remember  how he delivered those lectures  even 35 years after. I wouldn't say I was very close to him, as we lost touch for a while , only for our paths to cross again on the immigration queue in Heathrow airport, London about 10 years after my graduation. He was warm and energetic as usual even though older.
More emotional to me is that he passed on the day my late father would have been 82 years old. 
Dr Toks' love for his students and Alma Mater - "Government College Ibadan" is legendary.
Fare the well sir!! and may you find rest in the bosom of our Lord Jesus Christ. RIP.

I just learned about Prof's passage tonight (25-02-2016), painfully through Moboluwarin one of the children. Its painful I never really got the opportunity to fellowship with you in Toronto. I thank God for your life and what He enabled you to achieve while in the flesh. As believers we know that to be absent in the body is to be present with the Lord. Uncle Toks, I remember the first time I knew about Thanksgiving, or ate Thanksgiving turkey, it was at your house in Alausa, Ikeja and you made it! It was so weird to me to see a man go into the kitchen and cook, much less come out with a magnificently roasted whole turkey! Uncle Toks you were just different. A nice and kind man. Always cool and calm, but with so much knowledge and wisdom hiding behind your glasses. I am so joyful that your spirit has found its final resting place with God, in a place where there is no sorrow, no pain, no sadness, only Joy! You are well loved and will be dearly remembered always.

My uncle Toks was a great man. He exemplified character and learning. He will be deeply missed till we meet again heaven. What a great time it'll be indeed. Sleep well sir.

Uncle Toks, you were a great mentor and kind advisor through the years we played squash rackets together at the University of Ife from 1980 up until 1982. Though you were an older and senior lecturer and I a lowly student you took me as a young friend. Your advice and mentorship helped a great deal during my troubles of 1982. God rest your soul sir. Thank you for being my friend when friends were in short supply

The experience of drinking from the fountain of the genuine human goodness you exemplified in good measure drowns the thunder of your exit. Ever loving, always giving, no pretensions, so true! Na Uncle Toks be dat! You loved profoundly and expressed it unreservedly to all. Oh how you loved our Sister - Bonne, abeg testify! 
I remember still how you encouraged, inspired, mentored as I went through university in Jos. How can I forget that brown envelope you handed to me in 1989.... You were blessed and chose to bless all who crossed your path.

My Darling Uncle!

The first time I met you you were larger than life! You called me a princess and I felt so special when you took my mom and I out for fun in Lagos and gave me 1000 Naira (just for me!) at the end of the night. I can still remember the aroma of your cigar. You continued to encourage me throughout my lengthy educational journey: "More grease to your elbows!" And oh how I loved to give you updates☺, even when all you could do was give me a big smile.

The Lord has given you peace and we send you  back to Him today. Thank you for always encouraging me to do better and be better. I hope to always make you proud.

One for you and one for me. Those are the first words that come to mind when I think of my dearest Uncle Toks. His smile was almost as wide as his heart and his warmth penetrated each of us. 

When my mother would say ,it's time to go to Canada, my heart would fill with hopes and aspirations for the fun adventures he would take us on. He never disappointed. 

He was the first father I ever saw at the stove and never ceased to amaze me with his cooking skills. From the beef paddies to the mac and cheese; eating together at the dining table always gave me joy. 

This is just a tiny fraction of the things he did that made him such a remarkable person. His life is not just a celebration of life. His life is a celebration of someone who understood the meaning of love and never hesitated to show it.

Uncle Toks, my big brother. Yours was an exemplary life, you impacted on both young and old. 
Our lives are richer because you were part of it and we are  grateful to God for having known you.
We will always treasure the wonderful times shared with you and our children at the Oshinowo Hilton. Your love, your kindness, always encouraging never too busy and always willing to assist. 
Uncle Toks you lived a good life and fought a good fight and now you are with the Lord.

Hello Dear My Only Pappo..,
   Word cannot expressed how happy I am being your caregiver, and its my pleasure and privilege to say that I'm so lucky being part of the family. Pappo you are my father, my friend, and my very best friend. Without you I'm nothing of what I have right now.

Pappo your so good to me.,you struggle to stay with me until I could fulfill my dream. This made me determined to pursue my goal in life. I'm so proud of you Pappo., I can tell how lucky you are, many people around you who loves you.,but the Almighty God loves you more. Uncle Toks was a great man and one of the kindest. Although over the years contact has been limited I always remember from when I was much younger, how cool Uncle Toks looked with the glasses and the pipe back in Alausa, and how he always had a smile on. 

The last few times he was back in Nigeria I was his designated telecommunications expert specialising in the purchasing of recharge cards and although it may not sound like it,what a wonderful job it was and o how much love and appreciation he showed. From those experiences he coined me his right hand man. 

The fondest memory I have though is challenging Uncle Toks to a game of pool thinking I could get the best of him, as it turns out he was excellent at it and schooled me with precision. If anyone knows Uncle Toks,they know schooling with precision is right up his alley.

Words cannot express how much you will be missed Uncle Toks.

From as far back as I can remember uncle Toks has been the same. So gentle, so kind, so easy going and always fun to be around. He brought wisdom to every situation and made mountains seem surmountable. He was an example of a great father, husband and uncle. Its almost unbelievable that he is no longer with us but he will forever remain in my heart and the hearts of those who loved him.

My great amiable lecturer at the University of Ife, Nigeria. You were a great combination of poise, brilliance and humility.  A great gentleman to the core. May your humble soul rest in perfect peace and May the Lord comfort all the family members. Amen! Adieu, Toks!

Uncle Toks was someone who expressed a brand of love and kindness that I have come to realise is all too rare in this world.
On our holidays to Canada he would be at the airport promptly and with open arms, to help us start what he would make sure was an amazing few weeks. Uncle Toks was selfless.
As a child I remember borrowing Uncle Toks's bicycle to cycle with Mobo to EB games, I was very excited to be previewing new games, so excited that the JJC in me decided that it was safe to leave the bicycle unlocked outside the store. Long story short I returned home without the bicycle, expecting a furious Uncle Toks. I was suprised when what he did was sit me down and talk to me about being more conscious and careful, he even made his trademark hamburgers on the grill outside; which I am sure was to cheer us up.
Uncle Toks was amazing, someone who truly cared and tried to make a difference. 
I am deeply saddened by his passing and I pray that God wraps his arms around his family and loved ones but I am also celebrating the life of someone, who based on the impact he had on me; I know was truly loved and respected.
Rest in Perfect peace Uncle Toks.

Our heartfelt sympathy. There are no tears in heaven, or grief of any kind. The final teardrop is left to us he left behind. Though he's absent from the body, he is present with the Lord. It was the shocking  news  that brought  tears to  my  eyes and  very  heart  broken.  On that dreadful  day, God decides  it  was  your  time , your  time to go home,  so he took  your  life  away. 
My uncle  Toks  words are not  enough  to describe  your worth  the legacy  you  left with  us an intelligent , successful,  hard working,  humble,  honest, wise  and courageous  man who cares deeply  for  his family  and friends.

Bros Toks, I have so many good memories of you, they all point me to your love and kindness for my husband and your brother O'Sheg Oshinowo. From the time I met him in 1977, you were there to support and help him through his journey of building his career. You continued loving on him after Our marriage and you were the face my late father saw in Ondo to represent  your brother and the Oshinowo family during the traditional Nigerian engagement.
