January 29, 1931 - September 27, 2017
Passed peacefully in her sleep with her daughter Katharine at her side at The Teddington Retirement Residence, Toronto. Born in St. Catharines, Ontario to Roy and Constance East, Sheila was the dearly loved sister of the late Shirley Stephenson (late John). Predeceased by her husband Bruce, Sheila was mother of Paul (Hellen Spanjer) and Katharine (Clemens Sels), “Granny” to David and Bruce Harvey, Aunt to Andrew (Robin) and Mark (Libby) Stephenson, and a loyal friend to many in North Toronto, Lake of Bays, Calgary, and Montreal.
Sheila graduated from St. Clement’s School, Toronto, and Trinity College at the University of Toronto. She volunteered for over 25 years at North York General Hospital and fundraised with the women’s group at St. John’s York Mills. Sheila was an avid knitter and crafts person, and lover of all dogs, especially golden retrievers (Susie, Sandy, Buffy, Sam and Zoe).
Heartfelt thanks to Sheila’s tirelessly compassionate caregivers of many years, especially Janice Noval, Edith Langit, Janet Garcia and Zeny Lopez, and the loving staff at The Teddington.
A service will be held at the chapel at St. John’s York Mills Anglican Church (19 Don Ridge Drive) on Wednesday October 4th, 2017 at 2 p.m. followed by interment in the Churchyard of St. John’s next to her husband Bruce.
In lieu of flowers, the family wishes that donations be made to the North York General Hospital Foundation, http://www.nyghfoundation.ca
