COOKE, Sandra Ann (nee Perry) – It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and true friend, Sandy, 75, of Toronto. Surrounded by her family, pictures of her life and music she loved, Sandy lost her battle to aggressive cancer in the evening of Friday April 6, 2018. She was a true warrior through her illness, never complaining, and always concerned more for the wellbeing of others around her.
Sandy was the beloved Wife of the late Derek Cooke, mother of Tracey (Husband Chris), sons Troy and Chad and wonderful “Gram” to grandchildren Autymn, Callum, Clara, and Emilee. Sister of Madeline Perry, the late Joan Bates, and the late Andrew Perry. Wonderfully cherished aunt to very special nieces and nephews. Long-time confidant and comfort to close friends. And daughter of the late Clara and Romaine Perry.
Sandra was born in Freeport NS, leaving when she was 18 to head to Toronto to work after Business College. She met Derek a year later. She travelled with her husband while he was General Sales Manager for Consolidated Alcohol, a division of Gooderham and Worts, and she worked as a medical secretary at East General Hospital and then at Emergency Medical, living in ‘The Beaches’ of Toronto. Sandy and Derek retired to Smiths Cove, NS - in a perfectly situated home where she could admire beautiful sunsets, visit with family, and make fast friends of all who came to know her – whether it was the staff at Frenchys, the family next door, or the collection of seagulls, cats, and the occasional deer passing through her yard.
Whoever was lucky enough to interact with her was left with the same impression. That she was a generous woman, full of life, with a great sense of humour, and a selfless nature. We’ll miss you Sandy. `
Grateful appreciation to the amazing staff at Michael Garron Hospital, H Wing & Palliative Care, who cared for Sandy and her family. Special mention to Miki and Dr. Harris. No Funeral Service is planned, but donations to TLC Animal Shelter, Digby NS, or Michael Garron Palliative Care Unit in Sandy’s memory would be appreciated.
