Born in Argentina on June 23, 1927, Ruth Mary was a daughter of the late Dr. Norman and Margarite Hamilton. Predeceased by her first husband Fred Wilson, her firstborn son Andrew, her twin brother Oswald, and sisters Irene and Margarite.
She was mother to her three sons (Andrew, Roderick, Bruce), one daughter (Deborah),and two stepsons (David and Bruce Colwill), grandmother to 16 grandchildren and great grandmother to 25 great grandchildren.
When she married Fred Wilson, they (along with her extended family) moved to Canada and settled in Toronto, where Fred’s family was originally from. Their first home in Toronto was in Leaside where Andrew was born. They then bought an acreage (no running water) in Scarborough on Birchmount Road where Rod and Bruce were born. They then moved to a house on Newlands Avenue (where she could enjoy a tub full of hot water) and Deborah was born. Their last home together was in West Hill where she enjoyed working her large yard and gardens.
Fred passed away suddenly in 1980 and she continued to live in her home with the help of her son Rod, for a number of years. She married Sidney Colwill in 1986 and soon after they moved to Vineland staying there for a number of years. Lastly they moved back to the GTA, founding a condominium at Bethany Courts in Markham. She wanted that to be her final home, which it was.
Bringing up her family, she wanted each of her children to play an instrument and also make sure we enjoyed many camping trips. Hosting many guest missionaries, guest speakers along with family get-togethers kept her home a busy place. She also had a number of family as well as non-family living with her when they needed a place to stay. Throughout her life she was always helping others in need, including caring for her mother-in-law for a number of years in her home as well as cleaning and visiting the homes of numerous senior ladies.
The most important thing in her life was her Lord and Saviour who she met with daily in reading His word and prayer. Her life was guided by Proverbs 3:5-6 (Trust in the LORD with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take.)
