He is survived by his grandchildren, Ally and Luke, his son-in-law Chris, and his daughter, Robyn. He is now reunited with his son, Jamie, who passed away in 2011, and his parents, Alan and Dora and his best friend Bob “Leroy” LaRose from their high school group known as the BBT.
Bob prided himself on walking to the beat of his own drum. Coaching was one of his greatest passions. Outside of supporting his children’s sports, Bob became a dedicated Special Olympics Floor Hockey and Softball Coach. His FH team achieved gold in the provincial finals, and he received the inaugural Coach of the Year designation. After leaving advertising, he moved to carpentry and construction and adopted the "Bob the Builder” persona in his later life (which his grandchildren loved). Fiercely creative, he enhanced many Rosedale properties and created original furniture.
Bob had a passion for sailing, dancing, the Beach Boys, playing catch with his kids, shooting pool, and coaching – whether it was for little league, a club group, or with his Special Olympics athletes. In the last few years, he was dedicated to working with the members of his Friendship Group at the People’s Church.
He was committed to helping people of all ages who live with physical and mental challenges.
He had dreams of riding a Harley along the California coast. We hope that in a heavenly realm, he is doing that with Jay right now with Jesus as his co-pilot.
Bob was a huge supporter of the Therapeutic Clown program that his son, Jamie initiated at Holland Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital. While there will not be a funeral service, donations can be made to the Holland Bloorview Therapeutic Clown program in Bob’s name.
