June 30, 1958 - October 13, 2023
It is with profound sadness we announce the passing of Rick Scully, husband of Ruth (Turnbull), father of Sarah (Mark Russell), Adam and "GrandDick" of Poppy, son of Phyllis and the late Ernie Scully, brother of Geoff and friend of so many. Taken from us very quickly by CJD, a fatal and rare neurological disorder, only 17 days after being officially diagnosed.
Raised in Sarnia ON, Rick developed a love for hockey at an early age. He was recruited to attend Brown University in Providence RI, from 1976 -80. The Brown hockey family have played an important role in his life right until his passing.
His career began with the Los Angeles Kings followed by Procter & Gamble, GSK, The Alderwoods Group and ultimately Nuvo Garage where he capitalized on his creative and organizational skills.
Rick had many passions, but none more so than his immediate family. Sunday family dinners with a meal extraordinaire cooked on Ricardo's Home Grill, lots of red wine and much laughter. As a family, we are truly each other's best friends with Rick at the helm. His sense of calm in good times and bad provided a guiding light for parenting. Many trips with friends and family often around golf have been enjoyed around the world and over the years. His mantra was to live life today and not wait until tomorrow.
Avid golfer, fisherman, handyman, clotheshorse, chef and pickler, most famously known for Dick's Pics. He spent this past summer rebuilding our deck and designing an incredible outdoor kitchen that, sadly, he will never be able to use.
Rick will be missed by his Palmira family of friends in Bonita Springs, FL where the last 17 seasons have been spent. And of course, Bayview GCC which has been part of our family for 33 years. His endless generosity, kindness and loyalty will never be forgotten.
We thank all for the overwhelming outpouring of love over recent weeks as Rick battled this devastating disease.
A visitation from 12:30-2:00 pm followed by Rick's Celebration of Life at 2 pm was held at Bayview Golf and Country Club, 25 Fairway Heights Drive, Thornhill ON. on Monday October 16th.
In lieu of flowers, we ask donations be directed to Crohn's and Colitis Canada, the Scully family's charity of choice via crohnsandcolitis.ca/richardscully.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.kanejerrettnorthyork.ca for the Scully family.
