Superintendent Patricia Joan Post
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Patricia Post –“Pattie” on Tuesday Aug. 30Th , peacefully at home in her sleep, a few weeks after her 85th Birthday.
Pattie devoted close to 35 years of her life to the Metropolitan Toronto Police Department, rising from Sergeant to Inspector and then to the rank of Superintendent of Police, a major achievement for women during that time. She was well respected by her colleagues and was a true inspiration to many young women who joined the force. A colleague referred to Pattie as a “Maverick” – and that she truly was. Much of her exceptional career has been documented through interviews and may be found at The Osgoode Society Oral History Programme Archives.
Pattie leaves behind her wife and partner Jane Eden, sister Shirley Grundy, brother Johnny, Jane’s daughter Jennifer Young and granddaughter Aurora Garcia Young, Jane’s sisters Susan (Aub) James and Patti (Bill) Cragg, many nieces, nephews, grand nieces and nephews. She will also always be remembered by the family of Jane’s late sister Camille (Ola) Remme.
She will be missed by her many friends. She valued everyone’s friendship. All who had the pleasure of knowing her know that she lived a vibrant life, enjoyed to the fullest! It is a consolation knowing that she departed on her own terms, at home while sleeping in her favorite chair.
Pattie’s good humor, her infectious smile and sparkling blue eyes were known to all, just like she could be recognized from a distance with her constant, happy whistling!!
During the past 20yrs the lives of Pattie and Jane were intertwined with those of many of their friends in Toronto and Coburg.
At Pattie's request, there will be no formal funeral service, however her friends and family will hold a celebration of her life at a date to be announced. Cremation has taken place. In honor of Pattie, please raise a glass, tell a joke and remember her witty, happy and positive attitude.
