Suzanne visited Grenada when she was 13. At that time I was 15 and I remember her expressing her surprise at my age relative to my size when compared to her her height and age. She was like as if in shock, said, " You're 15! I am only 13?" I could never forget that and always shared that experience.  I remember her as friendly person with a lovely smile and yes, she loved to sing. We lost contact and my many attempts to reach her failed. Later I learned she was an Opera singer and that gave me a great sense of pride.  To my shock, I searched for her this week, only to find out that she has passed. It's really sad for me, because she was a really nice person to me and I was never able to talk to her since that time in the late 80s. May her family find the strength to deal with this, because it's never easy.  May her soul rest in peace

Ms. Kilgore studied at the Glenn Gould Professional School and is a graduate of the Opera Performance Program at the University of Toronto.

Some Roles Played...

Soprano Suzanne Kilgore made her European debut in 2000 with Opera Theatre of Lucca as Ruggiero in Handel's Alcina.  She performed the lead role of Dorabella in Mozart's Cosi fan tutte, Madama Butterfly in Puccini's Madama Butterfly, Hippolyta from Britten's Midsummer Night's Dream,  Norma in Bellini's Norma, and Bianca in Puccini's La Rondine.
Ms. Kilgore performed the lead role of Donna Elvira in Mozart's Don Giovanni with Opera Lirica Italiana, and gave a recital of works by Schumann and Barber. 
Suzanne premiered Augeries of Innocence by Canadian composer Penelope Walcott and was a finalist in the 2003 Anton Guadagno International Palm Beach Opera Competition. In the series "Operatic Gems," she performed roles from Verdi's Ernani and Aida and sang excerpts from the role of Rosalinde from Die Fliedermaus at the Columbus Centre in Toronto.
Suzanne has also been a Guest Soloist in a long list of Concert performances.

Suzanne and I were best friends for many years. We met at horse camp when we were children. We had been out of contact and I'm devastated and heartbroken to find out she has passed away. She was one of the best people I had ever known. My condolences to her family. 

I went to John Wanless with Suzanne and am very sad that she is no longer with us. Her legacy will live on. Please pass on my deepest sympathy to her family...wishing her a peaceful journey, rest in Heaven -Chris Allison

She was There to Help

I bought a house that needed quite a lot of work, and I was feeling overwhelmed.  Doug came over to help install the kitchen, and Suzanne came along too. She took on the awful task of stripping wallpaper!
I went upstairs to check how it was going and, as testimony to  her creativity and sense of fun, she had stripped away enough wallpaper to leave the shape of a wee kitten!

I will miss our chats, and her wildly entertaining stories...

Mary Suzanne Yvonne Kilgore;  My daughter, my pride, my joy, my challenge. Her own operatic voice and those of her opera community in attendance, paid tribute to her outstanding personality  and ability. 
Love,  which was given in abundance, was expressed in words, song, and tears, and those unable to attend were missed.
The Celebration of Suzanne's Life was a clear reflection of the amazing person she was and how she was loved and highly respected by those close to her.
My love for my daughter will remain with me until I join her.  I will always be " just there " watching over you, my precious girl.

Suzanne and I worked together at Public Health Ontario both as assistants. We found common ground in that we were both singers, and that music was our true calling in life but had to pay the bills somehow! We would fondly refer to each other as Rock Diva and Opera Diva, respectively. I remember being absolutely blown away by her angelic, rich operatic vocal talent as she had played me a recording her performing an aria while we were having lunch in our office kitchen.  

A voice like Suzanne's came from a heavenly place and I was blessed to have gotten to hear her sing.  It was truly magical. 

Suzanne, you were taken from this life too soon. You were always kind and thoughtful and funny and caring and it will never make sense that you are gone. But I want to thank you for the short time I got to be in your life and I was blessed to know you. I know in my heart that the heavenly choir has gained a very extraordinary new member.  Until we meet again Opera Diva...rest in heavenly peace.

I, as many others, are trying to wrap our heads around you leaving this world. 
Your smile was contagious. Your personality was truly one of a kind. I find comfort in knowing that you are singing with the angels now in heaven. I hope to meet you again one day. My deepest condolences to you and your family.


I remember meeting Suzanne after a performance I was in, and it was as if we'd known each other all our lives. So bubbly and full of life.  I was completely shocked by her death! I'm at a loss for words.  Requiesca in pace, cara mia!

I met Suzanne when we were both voice students in the Glenn Gould school of music at the Royal Conservatory. She had a stunning, warm voice, and an adorable personality. She came with me to my hometown of Sault Ste Marie to sing a Messiah there once, one of the first professional gigs for both of us. She sang a killer version of "Refiner's Fire" with incredible commitment and professionalism for such a young pup. I remember it  like it was yesterday. We lost touch for years but then reconnected this summer over our mutual battles with cancer. She was selflessly offering me support and barely spoke of her own battle. I was shocked when I later learned how serious it was. My heart goes out to her family. The world has lost an extraodinarily beautiful soul, person, and voice. I feel blessed to have known Suzanne.

I'm so glad I got to know you and hear your beautiful voice over the last few years. I'm completely heartbroken however I am very glad that the time we spent together you shared your thoughts of Faith with me. It sure helps to know of your faith. It helps your family and all your friends and loved ones during these hard times. Until we meet again God bless. 

I am from Saskatchewan, but I lived in Toronto from 2012 to 2015. I met Suzanne while working for the Government of Ontario. We were a duo supporting a number of directors and staff. 
To be honest, neither of us was keen on our jobs. However, on the bright side, we bonded over how much we disliked cubicle work. We shared some big laughs and kept one another sane. All she wanted to do was sing and write creatively. All I wanted to do was get out of the office world, period.
Our friendship grew outside the office, and we encouraged and supported one another to pursue other things. I eventually left Toronto. But, I stayed in touch with Suzanne. She hoped she could visit me in Sask one day as she wanted to see the big skies. We also talked about taking a trip to Peru. 
While I am relieved she will no longer have to deal with the stress of her illness, I am devastated that she's gone. She was so intelligent, thoughtful and kind. And talented! And vibrant!  She was my best friend in that city and I have difficulty imagining a visit to Toronto without seeing her.  
My grief is strong. 
I would like to extend condolences to her family and loved ones at this incredibly difficult time. I would also like to thank Chris for the updates via the Go Fund Me Page. Being in Saskatchewan, I really appreciated the news and having an avenue to help my friend from afar. Love to all,

I met Suzanne,  in September 2001 when we started working with Opera Mississauga.  We soon became friends and her contagious sense of humour, incredible brains and we often joked about being zombies. Suzanne had a passion for words, she wrote a lot, she read a lot and she could recall almost everything she read. I was lazy, I did not read, I would just ask for a summary of a book and she would give it to me! She was a gifted singer. She was also talented in creating safe, healthy and natural beauty products. She liked Science Fiction. She liked Punk Rock.  Suzanne was a one of a kind person.  We shared a passion for Verdi and sung together numerous times. We shared a passion for great coffee and good food. We shared a love for humankind and her "thinking outside the box" always made me smile and reconsider my point of view. I miss you dearest friend but, I know that you are with us. 

Suzanne and I worked together at Public Health Ontario as part of the very tight Facilities Team. Suzanne was the always smiling face answering the many, and sometimes odd, requests directed at our team. I gave her many 'guerilla warfare' suggestions vis a vis her noisy co-tenants, though happily I don't think she ever used any of them! I never heard her sing but I imagine a deep soulful voice. We shared many laughs and I will miss her.
