Margaret is survived by her 10 children: Dr. Jim (Mary Anne) of Toronto; Dr. Bill (Mary Margaret) of Dundas, ON; Tom (Helen) of Burlington, ON; Mary (David) of Toronto; Peggy of Victoria, BC; Anne of Toronto; Dr. John (Karen) of Ottawa; David (Camilla) of Truro, NS; Katy (David) of Toronto; Jenny (Craig) of Unionville, ON; her 26 grandchildren: Michael, Mary-Helen, Mark, Matthew, John, Danny, Jay, Renee, Thomas, Connor, David, Meghan, Patricia, Stephen, Kate, Eric, Suzy, Patrick, Willy, Liam, Andrew, Ella, James, Charlie, Cameron and Emma and 4 great grandchildren; Maggie, Maddie, Luke and Abigail.
Margaret received her Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree from the University of Toronto in 1944 and was made a member of the Chancellor’s Circle of the University of Toronto in 1999. One of only two women in her program, Margaret was welcomed and respected by her classmates and was one of the first “working women” among her peers. Margaret was a remarkable woman, mother and matriarch who dedicated much of her life to raising her family of 10 children, supporting her husband as he worked tirelessly to improve the lives of thousands of women afflicted with breast cancer, while always remaining grounded in her unwavering faith.
A woman of patience, humility, style and grace, our mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, teacher and friend instilled in all of us the importance of love, respect, faith and family. Her quick wit, warmth, kindness and fighting spirit will be remembered by all that knew her.
Many thanks for the knowledgeable, kind and compassionate care provided by Dr. Yuna Lee and the Medical Team at St. Michael's Hospital and all the staff on 14 Cardinal Carter; Dr. Mark Nowaczynski and the HouseCalls Team; nurses Lorna, Francine, Anne and Anastasia; caregivers Mina, Alicia, Joy, Ruby and Emily and all those who helped Margaret live her life to the fullest and with dignity each and every day.
