From the first time meeting you sir at SPAH in Virginia Beach I felt like I had known you forever. You and Julio exchanged stories of the civil war you made us feel so at home as we were nervous about giving a seminar but your input helped to pull it all together. It was such a joy to see you and your wife this year in St Louis I see your smile in my mind's eye as well as your wifes. We will miss you but know you are resting in the arms of the lord and all of his angels.  

Manfred, my dear, dear friend and sidekick for so many years.  Mere words cannot express the profound loss I feel. Since Grade 9 at Streetsville High, we shared so many adventures.  From our musical endeavors in our teens, to helping me stagger home after excess consumption, to approaching the ladies,  to sharing our Baldwin Street residence in second year at UofT (you the language major cohabiting with two engineers), to introducing me to ichthyology - you were always there. 
After many years of infrequent contact as life got in the way with careers and family, etc, we renewed and redoubled our friendship in the early 2000s and since then met at your place or mine for our weekly jam session, during which time we established a repertoire of some sixty songs. Once last time: Take it, Manfred.
I miss you terribly my friend, wherever you may be. Always in my mind and heart, for certain. 
My deepest condolences to Mary, Irene and the rest of Manfred's extensive family. Not to mention Barnie - what must be going through your head!!

Dear Mary and family of Manfred.  I wish to extend my sincerest condolences for your tragic loss at the death of Manfred, who left much too young.  I mostly knew of Manfred, through my dear friend Mary, and so it seemed as if I did know him personally, from their travels, to his love of harmonica to Barney; he was a lovely caring human being with a deep love of family.  My deepest respects to the grieving family at your loss and sorrow.

On behalf of my late father, Robert HIggins [the Three Reeds; World’s Greatest Harmonica Band; Wine Cellar Trio], I wish to convey my sincere condolences to Manfred’s family.  Like so many others, Manfred was very much liked and respected by my father, who spoke of him frequently.  Clearly, his love of music served to further enhance his personal warmth and friendship with others. I hope that in your grief, you take comfort in knowing that he touched so many other  lives in such a positive way and will be greatly missed.  “To live in the hearts we leave behind, is not to die.” 

I’ve known Manfred for several years as a writer for SPAH  and recently we met to rehearse some tunes he wanted to record and I was going to lay down background tracks for him with chord and bass harmonica,  unfortunately In July my wife passed  away and I couldn’t continue.  As things settled down we talked about his request once more , I’m saddened by his passing ,   There are so many thing left undone, I feel blessed having known Manfred and know he’s in a better place with God, my condolences for the family

I don't have a memory of you, Manfred.   Only a feeling of love and loyalty transmitted to me by your sister, Irene.  And so you exist by way of her and how she felt about you.  That's all about love.  Rest in peace.  Your life was a true endeavour and you so very much mattered.    xo


Manfred, one of our oldest and dearest friends of almost 50 years. You went too soon but fought your illness with voracious courage and dignity.  Our world has lost a very special person.

You defined what living life well meant. The passion you had for your family, friends, music, travel, experiences,  and Barnie the Parrot whom we always thought was a male for about 40 years till "he" laid an egg. Hilarious. We always had such a good time getting together with you and your beloved Mary, sharing a meal, lounging over a few drinks, and never short on laughter and banter.    A worldly, well travelled insiteful man. Generous of heart and spirit. A truly kind man.

We will miss you dearly and know you are in a better place free from pain and with loved ones who have already left our world. It is without a doubt that you will be looking over those you left behind.
